Welcome to the site! Federal makes some really great cartridges for larger game. Look at the 140/150 gr bullets using a tough bullet like the trophy bonded bear claw, barnes TSX, sierra gameking, and nosler partition and you won't be disappointed.

i used to use the federal sierra gameking 150 grainers in my 270 for moose...never once had to track one!! there also available in high energy which i found were quite a bit stronger...good luck!!

ChesterGolf.......WooHoo........ Thanks for the reply. Don't know why I didn't think of looking at Federal. I used to use them all the time long ago. But, then I reloaded most of my rifle ammo. I am really a fan of Nosler Partition bullets.
I went to the Federal website and you are right on with your info and I can get what I need shipped right to my door.....or I might try going to the Sportsmans Warehouse near me. Thanks a million for your response.

I took my son out on a CDW Youth Hunt and they did not allow hand loads, so I bought him some 150 gr Winchester XP3s in .270 Win. Put down a large cow (about 525 lbs) at 273 yards (two good shots to the vitals). I normally hand load Barnes TSX bullets, so if you found those on the shelf, they would offer similar performance.

I don't use a 270 but a good friend uses Winchester 150gr silver tips, with great success, on the Elk around here.

150 gr Remington Cor-Lokt Express, even though it's a traditional soft point, it does work well on Elk.

Have never used Federal Fusion, but have hear many good thing about it. The Fusion sound like it's pretty comparable to the Speer Grand Slams I use in my reloads.
