Recoimmendations for CO 4th season

Due to the fact that I work weekends and have limited vacation I'm looking at 3rd, but more likely the 4th season to hunt elk in CO. I've looked at the 11/211 units for 4th season as they were recommended by a co-worker, however; I'm looking for recommendations on what units you guys have enjoyed hunting. My father will likely come out to hunt as well(non-resident). We don't want to use our preference points on this hunt, but we'd still like to get either sex tags.

We would hope for an area with many elk(I reazlize this might depend on weather) and hopefully fewer hunters. So what are your GMU recommendations for a 4th season, either-sex hunt?

Well the best way to narrow down your options is to look through the draw summaries to see which units you can even draw with a second choice or later option for either sex. And there aren't many. Lots of cow tags, but not many either sex or bull tags available after first choice.

The areas I am considering are 11/211, 161, 12/13/23/24, or 3/301. From your point of view do any of these areas stand out above the others?

Those are all decent options except 3 and 301. Not enough good public land to hunt. There are a few elk in the western portion of 3 in the BLM lands there, but unless you get an early migration, those units just won't have enough elk on public land.

Yep! Come Dec, Jan or later those lands (3 & 301) will be piled up with Elk...but they just do not get there until the snow is too deep to trek in! I must say that I did see quite a few herds using some of those lands during 4th season this past winter, but it did seem fairly strange! That 12/13/23/24 tag might be worth looking at, & group of my friends hunted their this past 4th season and they took home a couple decent bulls and a cow. Thumbs up
