Well this weekend we set up our backpacking camp up in GMU 47 in CO. We hiked about 3 miles from any trail or road and setup a small camp for archery season.

There was alot of deer in the area but not a whole lot of fresh elk sign. I snapped a few pictures while on the way. We ran into a few bucks while up there as well as some Blue Grouse. I also found a few small antler sheds.

We're hoping the animals move into the area later in the season because they usually do.

There will be 3 of us hunting out of the camp and we all have OTC Elk tags. We're planning on going up next weekend also to carry in some more supplies I'll try to get some more pictures. I can't wait for the season to start on the 29th.

Here's what we ran into...

Nice photos. I spent last winter in the Rockies and love seeing photos. Has to be one of the best places to live in America.
Thanks for the pics.

Thanks everyone for stopping in to check out my encounters. Living in Colorado is the only thing that keeps me going sometimes, I owe alot to this beautiful country. To tell you the truth I couldn't dream of living in a better place.
We're going back out on saturday to our camp. We've had a bit of cool weather so I'm hoping the animals will head down in elevation soon. This will be the last weekend before the season starts, and I think we're all getting pretty excited...

I'm bringing a new camera this time to get some video, I'm hoping to document most of the season, that is if the camera doesnt start to be too much of a hastle.

I'll get some pictures of the camp up sunday, that is if a bear didn't find a way to get our supply bags hanging in the tree.

Bear in camp....

Well after packing our bags to the brim and hiking the distance back to camp we got there and our stuff was ravaged by bears. We had all of our stuff inside bags wrapped in tarps then hoisted 25 feet into the air. Well bears can climb trees i suppose, they can also eat every bit of food in the camp as well as puncture all our water jugs.

This season just got a bit harder. 2 of us carried down all the trash that was left. We decided to hold off on leaving anything in the woods. Next weekend we will just pack whatever we can carry and rough it.

This is kind of a good and bad thing...We are going to be purchasing OTC bear tags since there was atleast 3 bears in the area. There was several different sized tracks and scat where are camp was. I have never killed a bear with a bow or really thought about it but this year were going to give it a go.

While we were headed up to camp we saw some fresh elk sign as well as a 5x elk shed. The shed had nice mass but short and was a bull we saw last year during rifle season. I also found a few old mule deer sheds but left them behind.

Heres a few pictures of camp and what not...

After the mess was cleaned up we headed down the mountain here's a few shots of the surronding area and the draw we hike up....(I'm having to resize HD pics smaller so they will upload so bare with me...)
