This evening I saw 2 small

This evening I saw 2 small bucks. One was a 6 point and I think the other one was a 4 pointer. Hopefully tomorrow morning will be a little more exciting. There is a heavy freeze warning for the area so it should be nice and crunchy in the morning and I will be able to hear the big boys coming.

No Big Buck Yet

I just returned from hunting whitetail for 5 days with Dad and both brothers. I had a GREAT time... but what a weird rut! Every day I saw 9 to 14 deer. On the driveway to Dad's Tuesday morning I watched a beautiful 10 point run accross his southern portion of the property. That was a great start to the next 5 days.

I saw another 10 point buck 2 days later on Dad's northern end of the property... but couldn't call him in from 100 yards away and he left the area with a small spike buck.

In total I saw two great looking 10 pointers, two nice 8 pointers, two good six pointers, three good 4 pointers, and five spikes.

I passed on shooting the nice 2.5 year old 8 pointer that was within 20 yards. I passed on one 6 pointer, a 4 pointer, and 3 spikes - all within 20 yards.

Dad saw an awesome non-typical on his eastern side of the property but couldn't get a shot off before it took off for a doe. My one brother took a nice 8 pointer on the southern end.

I watched a 4 pointer spar with a spike. I had the same 8 pointer I passed on earlier this week run a doe scent I had on my boots - he looked like a hound dog... but he ran the scent the wrong direction! I saw some great rubs and scrapes as well. I will return one or two days next week but will definitely be there for the beginning of the gun season... just can't wait to get back out there. I've attached a pic of one 4 pointer in front of me. The other pics are too blurry to post - lousy cell phone camera!!!

that's what it's all about

I enjoyed reading your post about the grand time you had with your family hunting. That is truly what it's all about. Success in hunting is not always judged by what's in the freezer or on the wall!!

Glad you had a good time!

Glad you had a good time!  The rut was just starting in Vermont this weekend, about a week later than normal. Weather warmed up to 72 on Sunday, but it's back in the 20-40 range now.  Should snap them into it full speed now.

Aren't you going back home

Aren't you going back home this year to hunt with your Dad? If so, we are expecting a nice pic with your deer and your smile!

nice

That seemed like a pretty decent sized 4 point even glad you had fun even if you didn't do any shooting. My last week  ended my PA bow season with no buck. My last day I sat all day and had the biggest buck I ever had a chance at and I didn't take a shot because he was quartering towards me. I was expecting and hoping for a better shot that never occured. Kinda second guessing myself for not taking the shot but I guess I would feel worse if I wounded him. He was about 20" wide and his G'2 looked baout 10" long!! Oh well theres always gun season

Wow!!! Sounds like you had a

Wow!!! Sounds like you had a great buck in front of you! I got lucky - The doe I shot about 3 weeks ago was a quartering to shot and I put it right on the mark and she dropped within 50 yards. I hoped for a better shot many times this past week but they never came. I'm with you on that - if I don't get a bow shot next week then I'm relying on gun season the Monday after Thanksgiving... and then again bow season after that! Good Luck there on your next hunt!!!

Just got back from hunting

Just got back from hunting today... and again I am without a buck. I saw a nice 8 point but he skirted the woodline and stayed out of bow range. Overall a nice day watching a bunch of deer frolicking in the field... just outside of range! Going back on Saturnday.

I have definitely had my ups

I have definitely had my ups and downs so far this year. I guess I will be trying something new though. Hunting a buck in the late season. I have never had to do that before. i did put my 2nd doe down on November 9th. She was a pretty good sized one. I will attach a few pics later.
