Rattlled in First Buck

About 8:30 this morning a doe went by along the edge of a bean field. A half-hour later I saw a buck on her trail. He was about 50 yards away through brush and timber.

I used my doe bleat call and then lightly rattled my horns. He made a B-Line for me. I didn't know how big he was so I drew my bow and was ready when he presented himself.

The buck stopped about 10 yards from my stand and had a look on his face like, "ok, where is everyone?" Fortunately for the buck, he was only a small six-pointer otherwise, I'd be telling you about the buck I got today.

Only saw a forkie after that, but it was cool rattlin' in a buck.

Awesome. I love it when something works like it's supposed to.

Yes, unfortunately, with archery whitetail hunting it doesn't happen like it is suppose to more often than not.

Purdy soon you will be able to rattle heavy horns to attract the big boys CVC. Im guessing that heavy sparring is starting up in your neck of the woods with Rut not far behind. Tickle rattling works GREAT in heavy spar time. I found years ago that using a really nice heavy set of horns tends to attract the big boys and the lil fellers tend to high tail it outta there. Good heavy cracks with hard lockups and hard 2 to 3 grunt sequences will a lot of times bring in a stone cold MONSTER if there is one within earshot right before the does get hot and they havnt locked up with any. Good fights Thumbs up Thumbs up

I've got a bag, but like you said, sounds like a bag of sticks.

Don't knock those rattling bags. I've rattled up some of the biggest bucks I have ever seen with the heavy horns rattling bag. You are right cam, the bigger the sound the bigger the buck. I used small racks and small bags and that's what came in, small bucks. When I switched to the heavy horns the big boys started showing up. I'm excited about the next week or 2, these bucks are responding very well right now to the light rattling and soft grunts.

Aint it funny just how tuned a deer's hearing is???!!! Buggers can tell if its a couple of big boys fighting and know to get the living hell OUT!!!!

Just never seen the use for one of them bags. Other than maybe carrying a big ole set of 10's is a little bit of a pain in the rear. Ive always figured, if a deer can tell if its a couple of big boys fighting, then it could surely tell if its a bag of sticks ratteling. I guess what I said before really does mean something, Horny males of any species are stupid!!!! Laugh Laugh Laugh

Sigh, I hate it when the wife is always right!!!

A 4 x 2 was under my stand the other day and he wasnt doing anything for about an hour so i grunted at him he looked up then went back to eating. then i hit the rattle bag and he went running towards a little open are like he was ready to fight and then he saw my decoy and got scared and ran into the thick stuff about 60 yards and just stared at it. nothing else came in and he eventually walked off.

This was the same day that we pulled my dads monster ten out of the woods with the four wheeler at the same spot.

The main reason I went to the bag was because of the pain in the ass of carrying the set of antlers around that I use to use lol
Chalked up another encounter this morning using the bag. As soon as I got in the stand I could hear grunting in the distance. I waited til just before daybreak and started the rattling and grunts. 5 minutes later I had a HUGE buck (180/190") coming in. Unfortunately 4 does and a smaller buck came in also from a different direction. They made it all the way to me within 10 yds. and started acting nervous. You can imagine what big daddy did Brick Wall,) He had made it to 60 yds. and slowly turned around and watched what was happening from a distance. Was a great show for about 45 minutes.
Rattled in a 9 pt. this evening, but after seeing the monster I let him walk. I may be regretting that one Think
