Me i don't care if I NEVER see a snake-of any kind-- just made arrangements to have my dogs avoidance trained next spring--now have to do samo for horses.

Avoidence training is good but the dog killed in texas and my Squirt nver knew the snake was there. Avoidence training would not have helped. Now mu old Hannah loved to fool with snakes but she only got around a rattler once and I killed it.

That post is enough to give a herpitologist the heebie geebies. Yikes!!

Just one more reason I LOVE living up north....only the odd garter snake.

No rattlers up here

We encounter some now and again here. Spring turkey season you need to be careful, not for dogs but yourself. They are coming out of winter dens and seeking some heat. I sat down by one two years ago, he sunning himself on a rock. Now his rattles are displayed on the same turkey fan taken from that spot.

We also run into with dogs when hunting grouse in the fall. You hear of a dog getting bitten about each year.

A few years ago I had Viszla that was bit twice by a rattler. He ended up surviving, and was real keen on staying away from them after that.
