My best method for finding rabbits is bush crashing threw little thickets of pines and spruce, rabbits around here are notorious for sitting under the sweeping branches of the spruces and sitting there eating you are almost guarenteed to find one huddled up under one. Even if you walk up on them they arent running to far thats why I use my shotguns for rabbits usually a 12 guage with a small shot shell # 7 or 8.
I always wait till after deer season and give them a chance to turn white much easier to spot then and the cold weather gets them moving ! half dozen or so is all i need to make traditional meat pies for christmas and a couple of rappee mmmm
