Is someone allowed to carry a sidearm in Colorado during a scouting trip without any hunting licenses? Is it legal to have a sidearm with a red dot scope? Appreciate any insight you can give since we leave for Colorado in about a week. Thanks!
Your allowed to carry a sidearm at anytime in colorado as long as its visable.(inside a vehicle might be different i'm not sure) Some designated campsites and parks wont allow them but your fine in national forest and BLM public lands. The red dot sight is fine as long as its not on your bow or muzzleloader during the appropriate season. This is straight from the rules and regs check for yourself at the dow site.
Not sure if Colorado is the same but in Utah you are not allowed to have a centerfire or rimfire firearm in your possession, in your car, or in your camp during an archery or muzzleloader season. Only exceptions are if you have a concealed permit or if you have another in season permit, such as grouse or something similar. If you are outside of an archery or muzzleloader season meaning you're in a centerfire season or there is no season at all then it's ok.
As the allure of hunting big whitetails becomes more and more a passion for many, we are finding that the recent (historically speaking) popularity of hunting deer from a tree stand is becoming the way to do it. I'll make no statement either for or against that technique here. This will be simply an essay on what I feel are some outstanding rifles for tree stand use.
Before we go even one more step, let's all remember that safety is first and foremost for anyone wanting to hunt...
