Good question. I have been a member for a couple of years, and I do not recall them doing this before. Of course, I had a job that I was in the field alot, and not near a computer, so I was on alot less frquently. As for next year, I am sure we would all love it..........
I have been here since 2006 and this is the first contest that since that time. it has been fun, but i suppose the site owners will assess the cost-benefits of it. If it was profitable and had long term residual effects thats increased member participation then I bet they'll do it again. If not, then I suspect this will be the first and the last
This is the first time we've had a contest of this kind. We primarily came up with the contest to coincide with the relaunch of the new BGH site back at the end of June. Because the new site had so many new features, we felt a contest would be a fun way to inspire everyone to try the new features and contribute to the site. Plus, I'm not sure if most members realize it, but it was also our 10 year anniversary! Yup, BGH has been online since 2000 now!
Will we do this again? We're not sure. It's been costly. We did not have sponsors or donations (except for one pair of Vanguard binoculars), we purchased all prizes. If we could come up with some good sponsors, we would be game to do more.
We may have some other contests and/or give aways, but they will be on a smaller scale.
One of the things I struggle with when afield is keeping my rifle clean and in good working order. Small amounts of dust and dirt collect moisture; moisture can freeze rendering your action immovable when you need it most. I have seen this happen on multiple occasions, and over time, I’ve learned the cause and how to prevent this from happening.
The first thing that you need to avoid before going afield is leaving excess oil on the gun. Oil will trap dirt and sand in all the wrong places....
