Processing question

Hi. I was wondering if someone could give me a general idea of the cost of processing deer meat? We live in Florida and hubby is considering getting his son to do a couple hunting trips with him this year, but he's never gone after large game so we are unsure of the cost of processing.

Thanks in advance!

I pay $48 dollars for a whitetail and can get it cut anyway I want for that price. It all depends on the processor. Check your local taxidermists and meat houses for processing prices.

Honestly, I just don't have any desire to dress a deer myself....and considering my husband won't even clean his own fish, I am sure that is a dead end with him. lol

Thank you for the suggestion though.

Well the $48 is only for processing the gutted carcass I have to remove the heart, lungs, diaphragm, intestines stomach, and everything else in the abdominal cavity.

If you consider the amount of work and the fact that the butcher will get more meat and package it profesionally the cost is usually worth it. In NJ we pay a minimum of $65 and thats just for a standard cut! I butcher my own.

I just take mine to the taxidermist to process b/c I give away some of the meat b/c I'm the only one in my family that eats deer. He puts it in little stamped pack so I know what I'm giving away. Granted that and saving the time it's woth the money.
