I'm a long-time deer hunter and a 2 year old bear hunter. I'm looking into trying predator calls this fall. Any suggestions?
I'll be rifle hunting at 6500' in the So. California Mountains where it is illegal to bait, I don't know anyone with a hound, and there are generally very few bear hunters. I've scouted and located scat and tracks between a bunch of oaks and leading up to higher country.

Well any legal way you get the bear to you is a good way right? 
Seriously, it should sound bad (high pitched squeal of sorts)...
It is supposed to imitate a small mammal in distress (injured, stuck, etc). The bear being an opportunist likes the sound of any easy catch.
You may attract in other scavanger/oppurtunists too...
