PPP or Posting Pet Peeves

There are certain things about posting that annoy me like finger nails on the chalk board.

The all CAPS poster.

The poster whose grammar and spelling couldn't pass first grade,

The poster that continually spells a word wrong, not just the occasional typo, but just about in every single post.

The poster that asks a question, gets lots of answers and never comes back to the thread they started.

Your last one is a big one

Your last one is a big one for me.  Also, someone starting a question in a forum which he/she has absolutely no connection to.  "How's the snow leopard hunting this time of year in Tanzania????"... lol

Also, it hasn't happened the last round or 2, but bringing up 2 year old threads just to get reply points.  If it's older than this calendar year, it is very peeving.......

That is the problem with

That is the problem with running a contest where you get points for posting a question or an answer, plane and simple.  Now I do not mind answering a question if I know of an answer to to or have knowlege of it.  But when you have to go to the post to actually find out what the question is it is a waste of time for me and others.  I have seen a few new post here that I presume that were made by somebody that is just starting out hunting and really doen't know what to do or would have any creadibility in answering a post.  So it doesn't bother me when they don't replay to other post.

So while I have enjoyed this contest and have won a couple of prizes it will be nice to get back to the reason of this forum and that is helping other hunters that have questions and not just those that want more points and will ask anyting to get them.

I am guilty of responding to

I am guilty of responding to a very old post, but in my defense I didn't pay attention to the date.  It was near the top of the page and I just assumed it was about a current lion hunt.  It was only after others responded to my post that I realized that it was over a year old.

The quantity of posts have picked up here and it is a good and bad thing.  I will be glad when it adjusts and I am sure you'll be glad to stop seeing CVC everywhere.  It did make me explore some overlooked areas and I think my appreciation and enjoyment of the site will be greater in the future because of it.

Back on topic....pet peeve, the know it all.  Knows everything about everything.

Simple minded people

My pet peeves are few but I can't stand thin-skinned people who get offended when an answer to their post is not what they wanted to hear.

Liars who intentionaly misrepresent facts or the words of other posters so that their point of view is proven.

Next would be rude and obnoxious posters who just try to get a rise out of others or try to belittle others so that they can look better.

My number one peeve are simple minded posters who think that just because they don't do something then it must be wrong for anyone else to do it, ie; Dog Hunting and High fence hunting should be outlawed, any form of hunting that isn't stalking is not sporting..etc... These posters are usually all of the above also.

I agree about hunters and

I agree about hunters and posters who think that their way is the only way and if they don't do it, it is wrong and unethical.  Ethics are relative and as long as it is legal and have no direct negative impact on me then I am okay with it.  Hunters need to support and not attack one another.

How bout the posters that do

How bout the posters that do all kinds of stuff just to win the contest including posting pointless threads on god knows what, one word replies that i have to keep scrolling passed to actually find something that someone put the time to write something informational and inteligent, and most of all people that think that your post count or the number of points you have actually means jack diddly about your hunting experience or the validity of the information in your posts. some people just like to hunt more than type.

I think that is one of the

I think that is one of the unintended consequences of having a contest based on points earned by posting.  One word posts will not win the contest.  But, if you want to compete in a contest what else are you suppose to do other than post a lot?  The contest may not be for everyone and this is the first time I competed in it, but yes, I am out to win and that means posting a lot of posts.  I try to combine quantity and quality, but sometimes quality falters a bit.

I don't think anyone on here thinks post count equates to experience. I think it is quite the opposite.  There are posters that post rarely who I respect and believe have expert knowledge.  Also, I think the ratio of new topics to posts is quite low.  I don't create many new topics and I don't see my fellow competitors doing it either.  Perhaps because it doesn't pay off in terms of the points.

I am not upset about your characterization of the contestants or believe it was directed toward me.  I just thought I'd respond and give you a perspective from someone competing in the contest.

my post wasnt directed at

my post wasnt directed at anyone. I just know that for a while I got tired of reading 20 straight posts of "sweet dude" or "NICE :)" after somebody had taken the time to write a very well thought out recap of their hunt. I will add that the Stories section of this sight has been greatly benefittied by the contest. Some of the stories being posted are outstanding!!

Actually i think those

Actually i think those posting the one word posts aren't in the contest.  A one word post only gets you one point and you won't win the contest with one point per post.  Those competiting tend to give very detailed responses.

I agree about the stories.  It has been a good thing about the contest.

I was going to say the same

I was going to say the same thing. It's not the one word posters that are hard to read.  I welcome those.  It's the ones that are a page long, and by the time you get done reading them, you realize that nothing was actually said in the post, it was just to get more points... lol
