This is a hog I trapped last Thursday night. This is the first time I have used a trap. This hog weighed about 70 pounds on the hoof. I find hogs are generally greatly over estimated in there weight. If you just compare the hog to the person in the photo it's pretty easy to tell they have over estimated the weight of the hog.

You are correct in that hog hunters are typical of hunters and fishermen as every time they recount the story of the hog hunt, the hog gets bigger, heavier, and meaner!! Laugh

I have weighed a lot of the hogs I've shot and the ones I haven't I guestimate based on others I have shot.

70 pounds is a good eatin' hog!

One of the photos from my scout camera. I have a few more and will probably have a bunch more by the time I can get back to my cam.

This one went 250-lbs and change. I shot it I believe in '02 with my Ruger SRH in .480 Ruger. I used factory Speer Gold Dot (325 grains) ammo as there really weren't many options at that time.......

Took this ol' gal in 1994. 150 grain Sierra flat nose. Fired from a 788 Remington in 30-30. Took only 1 shot and she dropped in her tracks. You can see the rifle leaning against the tree. That should give you an idea of the size of the sow.

Hey Ironwood, haven't seen a post from you for a while! You still liveing in Lufkin? I guess by now you have retired, as you were talking about it when I last posted you! I thought you were going to go to New Mexico to live after retirement.

You may remember me, as you were trying to teach me to post pictures on the forums, but I still haven't learned how! I see you have no trouble.

That is a nice sow, and I'd like to ask you if you would consider selling the 788, 30-30, I've been looking for one in good shape for some time. I have one in mint condition chambered for 223, but I want a 30-30 788. Big smile

Good to see your post here! Thumbs up
