Points

I understand the points system. But i was wondering how do some of the members of this website get so many points in such little time? How does an individual get 14,000 point in a half of a day?

Thanks

I know I thought getting the amount of points I have gotten was good then I look at others and think wow this will be an impossible thing to get first prize in. I’m busy enough with family, friends, work, and double majoring in criminal justice along with law enforcement leadership. The way things are going im slowly working my way down to the bottom of the list. But don’t get me wrong I admire their hard work!

A lot of the points are

A lot of the points are coming from stories and tips that member submit.  So if you have been on a lot of hunting trips with photos and know a lot about something that you can submit a tip on then that is the way to make points.

The only problem that I have seen with either is that some of the tips are not that well thought out or are coming from an outside source and relly don't have any merit and could be dangerious.

Yeah Critter, I agree about

Yeah Critter, I agree about the tip section.  They essentially did away with the joke section, because they don't want cut and pasted stuff.  Problem is with jokes, I don't know if there is anything original anymore.  Well, besides my hunting exploits, which can be labeled as a joke..... lol

Other than that, it's alot of reading, and having some good replies.  Plusthe stories are the big way to add up points.

The joke section if you

The joke section if you parden my pun was a joke.  I remember one day when I loged on that there were two pages of jokes and not one question or answer to a real question.  It may be sad to say but I will be happy when the contest is over and we can get back to what this forum was and is about, hunting.  Asking real questions and getting real answers from members here that care about it.  It will also be interesting to see just how many of the members that have signed on here in the last 4 months stick around then.

Agreed, especially about the

Agreed, especially about the real questions being asked.  I believe they have sort of fixed that right now though.  In the point system, you can actually get alot more points by coming up with a well thought reply, than you can by starting the original thread.  So the guys that are starting 50 threads in every section are not getting as much as others.

I'll be here when it's over.  Been here a couple years, and was "active", just not "really active" like the last 4 months.

Good "point"

Hardee harr harr lol

That sparked a recommendation that I would like to make for future contests of this nature.  I would think that if someone starts a thread, they should be given a % of points equal to the amount of replies they receive.  I could see were some people would be so focused on winning a prize and would therefore not want to reply to someone's thread that is above them on the points board, but I don't think it would be that severe.

Example:  I start a thread and receive 150 points.  CVC replies to my thread and receives 150 points.  I get 15 points for CVC replying to "my" thread.

Although I did get focused on the prizes last month, every story I submitted or reply to a thread that I made, was done so in the interest of the site or a general interest in the subject that I posted to.

Just an idea.  Thumbs up

i actually thought about the same thing so I have to say this is a good idea but it doesn't sound like there will be another contest any time soon.

Like you, my posting is up due to the contest but I think the quaility of my post has actually improved because of it.
