Planning first African hunt.

Hello to all! This is my first post, I'll try to keep it short and to the point. I am trying to plan a 10 day safari, 2x1 plus 1-2 observers. We would like to hunt Buffalo and some plains game like: Zebra, Impala, Kudu, Gemsbuck or Wildebeast. My areas of preference are (not in any order) Tanzania, Zimbabwe (zambezi valley), hopefully it will be stable there by then, or Zambia. Problem is that I can't get the cost below $17,500 not counting observers and air-fare/charter. I would be willing to hunt any time of the year, but would prefer to go August/September time frame of 2009 or 10. I was hoping to keep cost around $15k total. Am I way off base or are there ways to keep cost down that I have not seen yet? Note: Observers (wife) will not tent camp per se, Possibly in one of the more permanant type. My cost is based upon Chifuti Safaris web page. I have seen some more expensive and some less. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I enjoy this thread, and wish it were more active. It is really nice to see P.H.s on here as well!

If you want to include cape buffalo, you can expect at least $8-10,000 per person, and that is without trophy fees on the others. Tanzania will be one of the more expensive places, Zimbabwe cheaper. South Africa would be middle expensive, but buffalo quotas may be hard to get and expensive. Most places in Zambia are going to require a charter flight, add $1-2000 for that. You might check Namibia out, there is some buffalo hunting in the Caprivi strip and the other animals are there also. I found Wendell Reich of http://www.huntersquest.com to be a great help for my hunt. My two buffalo, zebra, impala, gazelle, and hartebeest hunt 1x1 was over $20,000 for Tanzania. Good luck.

Thanks Mr. Davis.I Guess I'll keep piling money into the hunting account. I suspected as much. I have to think that they might negotiate some, depending upon time of year, left over tags etc....
