places to hunt?

I have talked my father of 64 years young to go on his first out west deer hunt.He has been a devoted whitetail hunter of 50 years in the great u.p. of michigan. What we are looking at doing is going to wyoming with a tent and camping gear to hunt public land, ya he doesnt want to spend the cash on a guided hunt, so any ideas of areas to look at for a possible decent area i am really open for suggestions. thanks in advance.

Claycrusher, I think you need to read up on the regulations for non-resident hunters for Wyoming. I believe they are one of the states that requires you to use an outfitter or a WY resident relative/friend needs to apply for a special permit so they can take you out hunting. I don't believe you can hunt on your own. Maybe one of the WY residents on this board can shed some light on this area.

There are many western states that have good mulies and allow non-residents to hunt on their own, including Colorado.

Good Luck!

I think it is only on national forest that you have to use a guide in WY. I believe they have tried to roll back that restriction in the past too.
