WyoHunter, I'm ffraid I'm not a big help I life south of Chadron closer to Colorado. but can tell you this there are some good hunt opportunites up there if your willing to get away from the road. I've turkey hunted up there a time or two and always seen deer. I've also antelope hunted west of Crawford in the grasslands another area with a good chance for deer.
What are you looking for, whitetail or mulie? trophy class or just a good hunt?
Just looking for a good bowhunt for whitetails mainly . Wouldn't pass up a big one if I saw it. Have you ever hunted Box Butte Reservoir north of Hemingford? Once again I'm just looking for a good deer hunt not a trophy hunt.
Never hunted box butte, I've fished it a few times and kow guys who waterfowl hunt it but never hunted it first hand.
I do all my bowhunting out at lake Mac.
By bowhunting you'll cut down on the amount of pressure i know the pine ridge gets hit pretty good during rifle season. But I I know a few guys who rifle hunt it and get back in way from the roads and do rather well.
As I sit and glass, which is common for hunters out west, I have sort of quickly discovered something I never learned when I was younger.
In my youth I had enthusiasm and spirit. In my middle to advancing years I have creaky knees, arthritis, and I tire more easily than I used to. Where I used to sit on the cold hard ground I now look for that soft spot to sooth my tired muscles. That leads me to my tip.
Carry your soft spot with you!
In my pack I carry an air filled, ultralight, camping pad....
