Pig Hunting in Colorado

Welcome to BGH Big smile
I don't think there is a season for hogs in Colorado. Never seen anyone chattin' about hogs there, but I'm sure someone from Colorado will be along to help out. If you don't get a response here try the Regional forum.
Good Luck!

Welcome Weta!

No wild hogs in Colorado that I've ever heard about. In fact I don't believe any of the surrounding states have any either. Does Kansas have any Redrider? I'm guessing the closest hogs to Colorado will be in Texas or Oklahoma.

There are some hogs here but they just passed law against hunting them. Mostly domestic hogs gone wild. I'm not sure how they plan on controling them Think I guess they think they won't reproduce eye roll

That's right I did read that. That is a very dumb law. How is Kansas going to control these wild hogs? What part of Kansas?

Mostly eastern. Either last fall or this spring the dept. used heilcopters and snipers to go on a mass hog killing near Clinton Lake which is only about 20 miles from where I'm at. I really don't know what there reasoning is for not letting hunters take care of the problem. The only legal means of controling them now is a landowner that is having problems with them can shoot them on site if they have a permit, and I'm sure if they need to they'll call in the snipers again.

Redrider,

Had the same type of situation on the island of Santa Cruz off the coast of So Calif. Domestic pigs got loose and they said let them alone. Now they are everywhere tearing up the island and Indian ruins with their rooting. Hopefully Kansas will be a little smarter.

The KS Animal Health Commissioner is the one who pushed this law. His reasons are that wild hogs carry disease that are transmissible to domestic animals and humans. Allowing the hunting of them will promote importing hogs for release into the state or simply releasing more domestic hogs to create more hunting opportunities and further exascerbating the problem.

Colorado doesn't have any free ranging wild hogs or exotic goats, but there is some place in eastern Colorado that supposedly has pigs, mouflons, barbary and those nasty looking Corsicans. Don't know a heck of alot about the place, but I can only assume that it's a high fenced deal. If the "place" was a few thousand acres and was a hunt instead of a shoot, it might not be a bad deal.
