Pheasant hunting in NJ

hello every one ill start with saying that I am new to this site and would like to share my enthusiasm for pheasant hunting in NJ, I'm 18 and my dad is in his 40's and we hunt together each year, after 4 years of hunting and never even seeing a buck while deer hunting I was really starting to lose my love for the sport, then we found pheasant hunting, don’t get me wrong I love deer hunting but for action and fun I think id rather go wing shooting any day. At first I wasn’t to sure about it, the birds are stocked and my first impression was that these would be farm raised birds that would just sit there and look at you while you lined up your shot. For me as with many other hunters the thrill isn’t in the kill it is in the hunt itself, I mean don’t get me wrong I love having some thing to take home and eat at the end of the day, but if the birds just going to sit there its not much different then going to the supper market. We have been hunting Pheasant for about 3 years now and my first impression couldn’t have been more wrong. These birds are smart, fast, and blend in to their habitat perfectly. It is one of the funniest hunts iv been on. this year I took my first cock bird, but iv had lots of shots (I'm not a bad shot, well not to bad any way they are just fast and take a bit of getting used to before you will start hitting flushing birds) once you get used to their habits you will find that you will be getting action on every trip. Any way I just wanted to share my love of wing shooting and if you are in the area and have never tried it I strongly encourage a pheasant trip next season.

Welcome to BGH! NJ has some of the best windshooting. Keep at it and you will get your buck too. Hunt the firearm buck week and you will score sooner or later. What part of the state are you hunting?

im in

well i live in south Jersey, for phesant we go to state woods in glassburo (spelling?) and for dear we have been going to warrden state park, im not sure if the spelling is right on those, I am actualy trying to plan a guided hunt to the midwest or even canada to get my dad an elk, im still young and have plenty of time to take a buck but my dad has been hunting for close to 30 years, he has seen lots of does and had one chance to shoot a buck in PA but he paniced and almost bent his trigger trying to shoot with the safety on. a few years ago they let cayoties loose here to try to cut back on some vermant and they are really putting a hurting on the deer population. i dont think any thing would make my dad happier then takeing a nice buck.

Well I wish you guys luck with taking your bucks. I have hunted north New Jersey a lot. I don't know much about the southern part of the state. The public land in Sussex and Warren counties has excelent deer hunting if you ever get a chance to plan a hunt up north.

I've never been to South Jersey, either and it sounds like I will have a good day hunting over there.
