PA Antler Rule Working

What's everyone's opinion on the PA antler rule. I think it's working, but too many doe are being taken out of the woods.

I have been seeing nicer bucks than before but less guys are getting them. The doe population will level off soon........I hope!

Honestly I think it is working a little, but when I sit here and think back I seen just as many big bucks as I do now. Granted, I missed the biggest buck I ever seen in the woods during archery, I still believe I am seeing less deer altogether then I did eight years ago.

I have noticed a little bit of a difference. I hunt state land a lot and think it is helping there. Like StruttinAnRuttin said, I am seeing less deer each year.

The deer i'm seeing are bigger just fewer, and the guys who are really complaing in our area are the ones who used to just walk in the woods plop down and shoot a deer. Now they have to hunt a little for them so they are complaing it does'nt work. I think the bigger issue is when are we gonna get to hunt on sundays? I'm all for sunday hunting it would give me more time with my sons and give people who cant take time off off work 2 extra days to hunt. i mean bow hunters get a month minimum. why cant we give rifle hunters along with everyone else 2 extra days Brick Wall,)

I haven't heard to many in our area complaining but I am sure it's there as well.

My normal work week is Tuesday - Saturday, I would love to see Sunday hunting open up.

Scott....Many have tried for alotta years to get sunday hunting into Pa without success...I personally dont forsee it coming anytime soon. Ive heard every reason in the world as to why they are against it and find MOST of them positively stupid.

As far as the Antler restriction goes, it is definatly working for the better. I am in total agreement with Scott on the hunters ploppin down and crackin a deer are the ones boo hooing. Thats a definate sign of overpopulation if its easy.

hey cam69conv at least i can dream a little, I have nothing against bowhunters but is is just a little rediculas they get so much time to hunt and we cant get sunday hunting past. if this state would just get out of their draconian ways and catch up with the rest of the country we would be ok. and the argument that its harder to kill a deer with a bow is hog wash i hunt with a bow also and by the time they are down spooking and terrifying all the deer in this state gun season should be a month also. just once i would like to see some balance and equallity in this state when it comes to how we set our seasons. then it wouldn't be so much of a fight here. Brick Wall,) . i must digress at any rate i will be at all the public meetings and voice my oppinion untill i either die or we get some changes along with my friends.

Hey Scott...Lemmi rephrase....I TOO find it to be stupid...But I have personally went to several meetings about the issue and have seen myself that 98% of the people at the meetings were against the No hunt sunday BS rule and yet it is STILL there...Kinna odd dont you think that 2% is concidered the majority?

As far as Bowhunters getting more time to hunt because it is easier...Thats a little laughable...MOST of the country, with the exceptions of a couple of states, have a longer bow season. Its not that its easier...Its that its a more productive tool for magement. Where I bowhunt im usually around 60% success rate in bow season and 100% in gun season. Sorry but I can snap off a deer at 300+ yards with a rifle but Im limited to 35 to 40 with a bow...so yeah its just a bit more difficult. The reason its a more effective tool is that you get several does and bucks out BEFORE they get to breed...therefore reducing the NEXT YEARS population.

I love when people tell me there are no big bucks in the woods of PA anymore and then I probe into their hunting techniques a little and they always end up being the guys who walk the beaten path primarily during rifle and hope to see a monster buck walk by.....also the type who will smoke a cigarette while doing it... neener!
