Here is the deal!
I have hunted 300ac in east central Indiana for fifteen years. It took four years to get the owner to let me hunt, he didn't let anyone on the property prior to me. Now every year it seams I am sharing the land with other hunters. This wouldn't be so bad if they were the same hunters each year but they are not. These guys come in opening day or through the next couple of weeks setting up stands and scouting around while I am trying to hunt. I have not seen a deer since the weekend after opening day. I ran into two guys this saturday walking around and have set up two stands about thirty yards from one of mine. If history repeates itself I will see few dear untill opening day gun season when they are on the run.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to handle the problem? The owner and the farmer who leases the crop ground can't say no to peaple asking to hunt, they will not let me sign a lease and hunting property is hard to come by in this area.

Consider asking the farmer/owner or whoever to get all of you(hunters) together and find away to divide the land into sections with each hunter his own section(Like a hunting club) This keeps people frrom messing up others hunts and elminates the chances of an accident or altercation between hunters.

I agree with Bnow, you may want to try dividing up the hunting not in space but in time as well. Say like four quadrants then certain groups get certain time (dusk, dawn, or afternoon).

Some might not be happy with the restrictions but it would be better than everybody running into each other at the same time and place.

I have to agree with bnow and bit,its very frustraing when you've a prime area and then boom people are all over (in a sense)where you are. unfortunalty like bitmasher (i belive) stated there will be some opisition to splitting up eveybody just because they all wnat to be out all day to get that buck ,just like the rest. where i hunt normally there is only six of us at a time, but there isnt as much land and we bump into each other from time to time. so the chance for an accident is realy great. nothing has happened(thank god),but we try and stay out of reach just because of the risk, and simple courtesy to each other.

try to work with the other hunters. Tell the owner that you would like to talk with anyone that is going to be hunting there, and hopefully you can work it out.

Best of hunting!!

Talking to strange hunters on a 300 acre tract seldom works and nobody wants to be limited to a single section.
Instead concentrate your scouting on escape routes. Find where the deer run to when spooked and how they get there, then set up your stands to watch these areas. Use the "rabbits" like some folks use a hound dog.
You have a bad situation but you can find a way to use it to your advantage.

Thanks for all the advise guys. I have only been able to catch up with one Hunter and all I could get was I'll try to stay out of your way. I told him I would be willing to stay in a certain area and if we can park in certain spots it would let the other know where we were going to hunt for the day.
I didn't get a complete commitment, I got I'll try.
It is now six weeks in the season and I have only encountered deer two times. The deer sign has all but vanished.
Gun season starts saturday, mabey it will change things a bit. I have also picked up another place that is limited to me only with sign out the wazoo!! I believe my luck is changing.

Thanks again and Good Luck!
