Thanks Wilderness Gateway, You are correct in the 8-9 hour drive (or less)being a factor. I have mostly been focusing on ID and WA for that reason. I can take the Friday before season off, Drive over there and be ready to hunt Saturday Morning.... unless i am packing in and then i have to allow another day anyway. Some of the hunts that Exbiologist discussed would be well worth the extra travel time.

I've also been looking at WA hunts up around White Salmon. 2.5 hours and i can be hunting.

You've got me really intriuged with Colorado now. Am I reading the regs right, that the $254.00 for a cow tag is your license and tag? You don't have the seperate charges for a hunting license and then another charge for a tag like most states?

You still have to buy a habitat stamp, but I think that's it. Oh and like a $3 application fee if you try to draw your tag, rather than pick up a leftover (and many units have leftover cow tags). But other than that, yes, cow tags are half price. There is no basic hunting license like Idaho or many other states require.

CO. does have the cheapest tags for non-residents.And most elk. Lots of hunters.

In Montana you get a combo license for Deer and Elk. It makes the hunt really fun because if you see a monster Deer then you go ahead and take it.
