Our country's security in jeopardy?

This opinion piece is from the WSJ. It details the serious situation we may be in with terorists, due to the closing of Gitmo and more importantly the termination of the CIA's authority to interrogate terrorists. Obama wants terrorists to have the same rights as a prisoner of war. They're not POWs - they're terrorists! He wants these people treated like they are sane and rational! Terrorists are not rational, that's why they're terrorists!! Brick Wall,)

From the article,

Quote:
It's also likely Mr. Obama will declare terrorists to be prisoners of war under the Geneva Conventions.

Even under Geneva convention rules terrorists are not "lawful combatants'. As such they are not entitled to P.O.W. status. Lawful combatants wear their countries uniform while fighting in a properly declared war. According to the G.C. they are at best classified as insurgent/geurillas and as such are subject legally to being shot on sight. This article is disturbing.

Dang !! A story by a University of California, Berkeley professor that is critical of Obama.
Mabe there is still reason and hope in California.

I am not really clear on what Obama wishes to accomplish with all of this.
I don't see how anyone can not think that this bodes dire consequences for the US and our Allies in the war on terror.

I actually think Obama is living in a fantasy world, where he thinks all should be treated equally and fairly. He leans towards socialism, so thinks he can apply his "fairness" to everyone, even terrorists. He may have more Jimmy Carter in him than we realized. Carter was a nice guy, but a lousy president. He simply could not make the tough calls.

Obama thinks if he's nice to the bad guys - they'll be nice to him (or us?) in return!

I just think it's really odd that while the left has been caterwauling about closing GITMO for years, we didn't hear one peep from the media about recidivism among released inmates. After all, that would support Bush's position to keep it open, wouldn't it?

But now that Obama owns it and it's his decision, the press has suddenly discovered that a remarkably high percentage of GITMO inmates go back to the fight and kill people if released. Looks to me like the press is flying topcover for Obama.
