First tip would be to get more than two hours from Colorado Springs. The elk density is fairly low compared to the large herds out west.

If only you could go back into Jacks Valley and hunt there.
There are actually some really nice bulls along the front range but the elk density is low and it's not "typical " elk country. Do a good map recon of the PNF and find the areas furtherst from a road with a drainage and start looking there. Another place to look is in the Hayman burn area. Dont forget o look at the fringe areas of the forest. either.
If I recall, the Academy has a very good guided hunt program. A close friend mentored one trip last year and they had good success. It may be worth talking to people who did that last year. Off the top of my head, I cant remember where your OTC archery tag is good but in the future, you dont have to go far to hunt.

I live in Colorado Springs area just west on Hwy24 towards Woodland Park. Give me a call 719-302-0345

There are a few small areas off of Hwy67 towards Deckers and some Public land for the OTC tags in GMU581 surrounding 11-mile Res. I guide in GMU 50/500/501 under license number 2642. I'll help you find some areas close to home!!!

Check out the Flat Tops Wilderness Area east of Meeker. That whole area between Meeker and Craig and south towards Rifle produces a lot of large bulls. Its pretty tough during rifle season, but during archery you might have some luck.
