Ossabaw Island WMA in Georgia

My two friends and I were selected for the Oct 22-24 archery hunt on Ossabaw Island. I understand that there is no ferry service to the island. I was wondering if anyone on here was attending that hunt or lives in the Savannah / Richmond Hill area that could ferry us out in their private boat or hitch a ride. We are more than willing to compensate for any expenses and time.

Best of luck to you. I would love to hear how your hunt went. I drew that tag 8 years ago but was unable to hunt.

Killkenny Fish Camp

I called the DNR coastal div. office and they referred me to Killkenny Fish Camp. They will provide a ferry for $60.00 per person for those who (like me) didn't know. This will be my first trip to Ossabaw. Anybody have any suggestions or pointers?
Thanks!!

OSSABAW

GOOD LUCK WITH THE OSSABAW HUNT. YOU WILL LOVE THE ISLAND. BRING EVERYTHING YOU WILL NEED. BRING PLENTY TO EAT AND DRINK. THERE ARE NO SUPPLIES OR POWER ON THE ISLAND. YOU CAN PLUG IN YOUR PHONE AT THE RANGER HUT FOR A RECHARGE. FOR THAT TIME OF YEAR BRING EXTRA ICE, PLENTY OF BUG SPRAY, AND DEFINITELY A THERMACELL WITH PLENTY OF FILTERS ETC. YOUR BEST BET IS LIGHTWEIGHT LONG SLEEVE SHIRT AND PANTS. BRING A CHAINSAW OR BRING YOU OWN WOOD. BRING THE HUGE ZIP LOCKS TO STORE THE MEAT IN THE WALK IN COOLER UNTIL TIME TO GO HOME. LEAVE SPACE OR BRING AN EXTRA COOLER TO STORE GAME ON TRIP HOME. BATTERY OPERATED FANS FOR THE TENT COULD ALSO BE A WELCOME ADDITION. IF IT IS HOT, YOU WILL JUST LAY IN YOUR TENT AND SWEAT AND NIGHT. A DEER DRAG IS ALSO A HUGE HELP ESPECIALLY IF HUNTING ALONE. YOU HAVE TO BRING YOUR HARVEST TO THE ROAD. BRING MUCK BOOTS OR ALPHA BURLYS. GORTEX HIKERS WILL NOT CUT IT. LOTS OF WET.

GET TO THE MARINA AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE THE DAY BEFORE THE HUNT STARTS. SOME WILL EVEN SLEEP AT THE MARINA TO GET ON THE ISLAND EARLY THAT DAY. IT TAKES A WHILE TO LOADED, FERRY TO THE ISLAND, AND UNLOADED AND SET UP CAMP.

THE SET UP IS ALMOST LIKE MOVING. ITS A LOT OF WORK CARRYING THAT MUCH GEAR DOWN THE DOCK TO THE BOAT THEN UP THE DOCK TO THE CAMPSITE, BUT IT'S WORTH IT. BRING YOUR CAMERA. IT'S A STEP BACK IN TIME, UNBELIEVABLE SCENERY AND MY FAVORITE PLACE TO HUNT. ALSO, KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR THE WILD BURROS. THEY WILL EAT OUT OF YOUR HAND. PRINT THE COLOR MAP FROM THE GA DNR WEBSITE AND TAKE IT WITH YOU. DONT FORGET YOUR GPS.

GO TO THE GON FORUM. LOTS OF INFORMATION THERE.

GOOD LUCK!
