Oregon N.Coast Bear and Cougar?

I'm coming back to hunting after 20yrs and want to try predator in North Coast Oregon. Could anyone give me a couple pointers as to the best/better ways to hunt cats and bear? e.g.; spot/stalk?, blind?, stand?, calls?,etc. Habitat preferences/Sign? Also any particular precautions I should take other than watching my a$$ obviously.

Any advice/suggestions would be welcome...

Welcome to the site. Sherwood huh? Do you know Ray Calkins? Vet with a clinic in Wilsonville, big in the Wirehair world. Heck of a nice guy!

Haven't hunted cougar ever and a long time since bears. Never hunted them in Ore. But everybody have an opinion and this one is free! Big smile Think I'd get out on timber co land and watch the edges of clear cuts. Also think I would try a predator call. Don't get any like the ones I have tho, I can't even get coyote's in. But I did call in the neighbors cat a couple times!

Thanks Don. Sorry, don't know Ray. My brother might, he lives in Wilsonville and has a couple dogs. I'm glad you said clear-cuts, just happens that describes the spot I've picked out. You're right about predator calls, there must be hundreds, in several different configurations. I think I'm gonna buy half-a-dozen or so and see what happens, play it by ear!...
