Opinions on Weatherby 270 mag Mark V Please

Any opinions? Would appreciate. I have an opportuntiy to purchase at a good price. I know bullets will cost more than I may be used to (have 270WSM) but what about bullet selection and availabilty. Anything gained over the 270WSM?
Also, I like the feel and heavier weight of the rifle...seems like it may spell steadiness and accuracy.

It is a fine rifle. Out of the box accuracy is excellent.

The 270 Weatherby Magnum has a 200-300 fps advantage over the 270 WSM. It also outranges the WSM version in trajectory and killing power. Factory loaded 150 grain bullets leave the muzzle at 3245 fps, and can top 3300 in a handload using IMR-7828 powder. A 140 grain bullet departs the muzzle at 3300 fps in a factory load and up to 3400 in a handload also using IMR-7828 powder.

Unfortunately, ammo availability is going to be an issue. Ammunition is also expensive. Reloading will save money.

Thanks...It is a fine rifel. Actually it my mind's ideal of what a rifle should look and feel like. The holy grail I suppose, for me. Yes, it's a bit heavier than I'm used to, but with it's reported accuracy, range and versatility as a deer & elk cartridge, I have to get it. I looked at the ammo prices online and they were about 5-10.00 more per box than I'm used to. But, it seems everyone carries it in their stores. Prolly sits on the shelf a while though. I'm really needing this rifle. I am going to trade my shadow 270 WSM as partial payment. They want $900.00 for it which includes a Variax III. Which is better than my Variax I i have now. My rig is worth about $600.00 Bucks brand new (I paid 584.00) but noticed shadows went up this year. They offered me 350.00 for it as trade bait. I know I will get a bit of the shaft here...but it's the only way I can afford this gun.
And, I wont need the 270WSM anymore anyway.

Well said from the Captain.

In short, the 270 Weatherby Mag to a 270 WSM is similar to comparing a 300 Win Mag to a 30-06.

Good luck with your new rifle and happy hunting.

Steve

FYI:

Concerning the Winchester Super Shadows, most Walmarts still sell this rifle in a scope & sling package for $398. Price is the same for magnum or standard calibers.

Jigman;
I have two Mark V Accumark Rifles. I wish all the rifles in my safe would shoot as “tight” as those two. They are superb rifles and worth every dime, I paid for them.
