Opening weekend a success

Called this tom in off roost. Hunt was over at 6:45am. This was a new area I had not hunted and actually flipped a coin to chose this place. It was meant to be. I really wanted to go hunt a regular honey hole, but I flipped a coin a dozen times (even had my son flip a couple times) and every flip turned up tails. To say the least I kept that coin and I'll be flippin every time I go hunt lol
This was also the first hunt (as a witness) for my son. He's hooked Thumbs up

Red rider,
Was wondering if I could get a contact from you. Myself and my longtime hunting buddy are coming out from GA next weekend. We are planning on roughing it (economical way). We have been researching the public wildlife area and would like some assistance if you are familiar with some of the places. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm fortunate enough to have alot of family farm land and being from a small community we have permission to hunt many private properties. So I can't speak from experience on public land. However I know serveral areas that in the area (public hunting ) that have plenty of turkeys. Perry Lake , Clinton Lake, Tuttle Creek Res., many walk- in hunting areas. Kansas Wildlife and Parks puts out a Hunting Atlas for public hunting and walk - in areas. I believe you can pull it up on-line at http://www.kdwp.state.ks.us/news/kdwp_info/locations/hunting_fishing_map...
Where are you planning on hunting?

Last a year I was invited out with a close friend of mine who was stationed in Mo. in the late 80's. We hunted near Weston, Mo and went over into north eastern Kansas. Hunted Perry wildlife area one morning but mostly hunted private land also. This was a one time invite due to the fact his wife was pregnant at the time. I enjoyed the hunt so much last year that I decided one more time would be nice. I thought about hunting Perry and trying some of the walk-in areas. I have researched several of the other wildlife areas. We kinda considered driving to the central region and possibly trying our luck at a Rio. Many things to consider yet though next weekend is drawing near. Thanks for your help

I live about 10 minutes from Perry Lake and have seen 3 different flocks on public land close to the lake. Mostly on the northeast side closer to where Delaware River flows in. If you would like specifics let me know. Good Luck ! I'll be out every weekend left of the season. Have nephews and friends I need to get set up and I have one tag left. Let us know how it turns out.
