When using topo maps and google earth. What do you guys look for when trying to pick an area to bowhunt? Living in Michigan makes it hard to do any scouting with boots on the ground this summer. I plan on reading a few books about elk hunting. I've never hunted elk and been using the Colorado DOW hunter atlas, looking at all the statistics, and google earth. Trying to pick an OTC gmu and a general area to start looking for elk when I get out there.
I've found a few spots with north facing slopes, timber, meadows, benches, and water. Just not sure what else to look for. I've not settled on a gmu yet, still looking at everything I can find on the web.
Thanks for any pointers about finding elk.
