I have never needed to use a gobble call.
If you have a box call and you put a rubberband on it you can shake it and get jsut as good of a gooble with the box call as you would with any store bought gobble call.

I don't think gobbler calls are really worth using. I guess I feel pretty much the same about all locater calls too. A loud yelp on a box call will work just as well and probably better than any locater. Keep in mind also, that a gobbler call might actually turn younger, less mature and/or less aggressive toms away.

About decoys... I reckon that if your on heavily used public land with a lot of goons that will "shoot first and ask questions later" that could be a problem. However, if you use a hen decoy it probably wont' be shot by another hunter since it is only gobblers that are legal in the spring.

I guess I've never seen that happen, but I suppose it could in some places.

i have used gobble calls to shock call ,but no longer use them> Specifically on public land. I don't want some other hunter to think i am a tom and start stalking me. between owls, geese, woodpecker, peacock and other varios shock calls like coyote you can locate the birds.

Yea i undearstand where he is coming from. But if he was calling trying to bring in a tom that had hens the gobbler would go the other way. Know if it was a lone gobbler i dont know. i use a box call insutuations were i can get away with hand movement, because i can get better sounds, but i also have a mouth call in if my hand movement could be seen. I am good enough to call a tom and get him attrackted with a mouth call just not when he has hens already. I also love my slate call custome made one it a couple of years back.

Crow question

Hi Guys, This is my first Turkey season I'm very excited about it. I see them all over the place around my town and I cant wait to get out there. I am going with an experienced Turkey hunter.
I do need to out of town a bit to get to a legal area and I was trying some scouting this week. I picked up a Crow call. I'll tell ya I don't think sounds ANYthING like a crow, It sounds more like a damm duck or somehting. It's a Hunter specialty crow call. It says just do the diaphram thing and It's easy. But I kinda laugh when I try it. Anyone else use crow calls to locate? Should I get a owl instead? Or am I just using it wrong. I have no idea. Oops! lol
Plus a friend of mine told me a while ago that a crow is more for later in the morning an and owl is best for sun-up. True?
Thanks guys Oh By the way I'm taking my Bow Laugh I just hope I have fun calling em in. I just love to be outdoors.

Thanks, Tom

I have both and rarely use them. get there before first light and listen to 'em go crazy before sunup. However there are times when you need to find them and I believe any loud noise will set them off. I wouldn't worry about the crow call soundin to much like a crow. I've had them gobble after I shooting another turkey.

Good Luck and post that TOM when you get him Thumbs up
