Another vote for the .270, with the proper bullet will take down most anything.

Key word in that sentence was MOST Laugh (said that with the knowledge that Its gonna draw out the fun ones) Laugh

In North America the .270 will take down just about every game animal.

Grizzlies - While it would probably kill the animal it wouldn't be an ideal caliber to hunt them with.

Polar Bear - Same as grizzlies, it would probably kill it but I wouldn't suggest a .270 to hunt them.

Elk - .270 would be considered small but reasonable to use on Elk. Many Elk have been taken down with this caliber.

Anything below an Elk would obviously be well within the range of the .270's power and the .270 has very good ballistics (very similar to the 7mm).

30-378 if your not in love with your shoulder.

300 win mag would be my vote - big enough for brown bear, overkill for deer and antelope

.280 rem. Flatter shooting, hits as hard as an '06 without the big mag recoil. Also it responds very well to handloading. bullet selection is better than the 270.

my accumark weighs around 9 1/2 pounds and i have a break on it so the recoil is no worse then a 243 win. and i have hand loads that will out shoot anything except a custom rifle and even some of those are out done. but hey thats why they make so many choices for us to have fun with Yes

308 Caliber

In my opinion, any 308 caliber rifle would be an excellent choice. A rifle chambered for the 30-06 Springfield and 300 Winchester Magnum are my recommendations. I personally use a rifle chambered for 300 Winchester Magnum for all my hunting. You would also have a large selection of bullets to choose from.

This same topic is being discussed at the following thread http://www.snipershide.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=001182.... Of the 31 posts on snipers hide, 2/3 recommended a rifle chambered for a 308 caliber bullet. The 30-06 and 300 magnums were the most popular.

I hope this helps you. The next task will be to select a rifle, but that is a different topic. Good luck and happy hunting.
