300 win mag would be my vote - big enough for brown bear, overkill for deer and antelope
my accumark weighs around 9 1/2 pounds and i have a break on it so the recoil is no worse then a 243 win. and i have hand loads that will out shoot anything except a custom rifle and even some of those are out done. but hey thats why they make so many choices for us to have fun with
In my opinion, any 308 caliber rifle would be an excellent choice. A rifle chambered for the 30-06 Springfield and 300 Winchester Magnum are my recommendations. I personally use a rifle chambered for 300 Winchester Magnum for all my hunting. You would also have a large selection of bullets to choose from.
When calling coyotes, more often than not they will circle on a target they are
coming into and approach from the downwind side. Presumably they do this in
order to align what they smell, with what they are hearing.
This means that you should always have your downwind side camouflaged and have
an open shooting lane. If the area is heavily covered the coyote could come in
take a look and be gone, with you none the wiser.
