Oklahoma Controlled Hunts

Who all entered the Oklahoma controlled hunts this year ? What did you enter and with how many points ?  I did all 3 Bull Elk hunts in Wichita Mts. - 3 Bonus points. Wichita Mts. Buck hunt - 2 Bonus points. Pronghorn - Cimmeron & Texas counties - 3 bonus points. Turkey Mcalester AAP - 5 Bonus points. We usually enter for at least 2 of the Mcalester AAP recurve bow hunts. But my buddy is having a baby on or around Nov. 1st so it nocked us out of Mcalester but we still put in for Wichita mts because its close to home and a long shot with 2 bonus points.

The hunting in Oklahoma is

The hunting in Oklahoma is better than its ever been for my species. Our deer population is booming and the seasons are longer than ever. One week of muzzle loader, 2 weeks of rifle season and 3 1/2 months of bow season. We dont have nearly the number of big mature buck that Kansas has but thats been getting a little better. OWD lowered the number of buck tags per hunter per year from 3 to 2 year before last. If they would lower it down to 1 we would be getting some bigger older bucks, but until they do that we will be a few steps behind Kansas.

Elk and Pronghorn are very hard to get tags for. Pronghorn has a bow season now but only in the Oklahoma panhandle, which isnt very big. There are only about 50 bull elk tags in the state and 20 thousand applicants so the odds of getting one of those is microscopic. I only know a couple of people who have drawn Elk tags and it took 20-30 PP to get it.

Turkey hunting is good to great depending on how the hatch has been on the previous years. Always fun.

Wild hogs are everywhere and a blast to hunt. I usually kill 15-20 per year and kill a really big one every few years. Lots of fun.

And yes I do go west. I love Wyo. I've been getting PP in Colorado and I drew my first tag in NM this year for Mule Deer.

If ya ever wanna come to OK. and do some hunting let me know first !

You can buy OTC tags but its hard to find private land to hunt on and there is very little public land that is open to OTC hunting.

Just curious, in terms of cost, land access, etc., is it pretty much like the other plains states, i.e. Nebraska, Kansas, and so-on??

I would say it would be

I would say it would be simular. There isnt much public land and the NR tags for big game are pricey.

I'm surprised with putting in for all those tags you didn't come out with more than just your antelope.
