Ok, I'm Officially A Resident, Now What?

I live in Billings MT and I'm now offically a resident as far as the dept. of FW&P is concerned. I'd like to try an elk hunt this year but I've never hunted in MT before. A few of the guy I work with say the Little Snowy mountains would be my best bet if I can draw a tag. If I don't they've said any of the public land around Red Lodge won't be worth the trip because of extreme hunting pressure. I don't really want to go any farther west than I have to though so I was thinking about any public land south of Bozeman. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

If your not particular about horns, apply for a cow tag south of Fort Peck. Real good draw odds, outstanding chances to harvest. Lots & Lots of elk. Plus, you will get an opportunity to watch some of the biggest elk you will see in the great state of Montana.
