Ohio Bucks Shedding Antlers

A buddy of mine was hunting Sunday muzzleloader season in SE Ohio and shot this nice buck... with no antlers.  Hang weight was 160 pounds before field dressing so I think it may have been a 2.5 year old 8 point.  Looking forward to shed hunting later this spring.

Yeah, with the winter that's

Yeah, with the winter that's going on up there, the cold and snow, I think alot of the animals are dropping them already.  Saw one place that thought they were 50/50 dropped in their area.

Tell your friend congrats! Good eats!

Thanks and I will tell him

Thanks and I will tell him you said congrats!  I just read an article where they said the sub-zero weather and food situation will make the bucks lose their antlers early.  I did'nt think that would be the case where I'm hunting based on the good food supply but now I'm a believer.  It was -11 here this morning... brrrrrr!  Only -4 right now so tropical heat wave!  LOL!!!

I was in Vermont for Christmas and it was in the single digits, and even dipped below zero one morning.  Forgot about that part of winter, living here in So. California....lol

Weird Weather

LOL!!! That cold will slap you hard and make you remember real quick!  We are having some weird weather here.  It was -12 here Tuesday and yesterday was 60 degrees.  I have yet to get my buck this year so this has really screwed up my January hunts for the couple of very nice bucks on the property.  I guess shed hunting will be my next antler focus... and I have a couple of coyotes to get rid of too!
