Offseason?  Well, I guess we

Offseason?  Well, I guess we have an off season, but it seems pretty short.  Not really including the time we spend fishing, camping and shooting, we spend about 7 months of the year planning, preparing and hunting each year.  If we plan our seasons right, we have 1 to 2 big game hunts each month from September through January.  We also hunt 3 different states:  Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska.

Part of the fun is planning hunts with our friends.  Since our group is relatively large, it takes some time to communicate with everyone.  And, the way our group dynamics generally work, there are several of us who put a hunt or two together and then pass on the info to the rest of the group.  This allows us to put several hunts on the calendar and not have to know all of the ins and outs of each states regs or have all of the landowner contacts to make it work.  It also usually includes a couple of breakfasts and lunches with friends to get everything put together for each season.  By the time we're done planning, we've got a bunch of hunts and options to keep ourselves busy hunting from September all the way through January.

One of these days I would like to figure out a hog hunt in Texas or Oklahoma in the late winter or spring.  Add in a turkey hunt (or 2) and we're hunting almost year round.  Ahhhh, a man can dream.....

Yes, I do really enjoy the

Yes, I do really enjoy the planning part of it too.  Was going over stuff with a hunting buddy a couple of days ago.  It helps to talk about stuff....we actually came up with a tentative plan for the next several years, as far as preference points, gmu's, season, etc etc.  I'm sure it will change many times but its fun to discuss/plan.

Last year I also really enjoyed all the planning that went into camp as well.....where to stay, meals, supplies, etc.

As far as hunting in other states, that sounds like fun and a good way to fill up the year, but I cannot imagine learning all the in's and out's of each states reg's!!! My head still hurts from trying to figure out CO's last year.  I used to consider myself at least semi intelligent....that little brochure knocked my self opinion down a couple of pegs!!!

Even though I am thinking of

Even though I am thinking of where and what hunts and points I will put in for this time of year, I still go through withdrawls.  So this year I put in for Barbary Sheep here in NM.  I couldn't get out opening weekend but I will be out most of next week.  Hopefully that will give me my fix LOL

I had never heard of this

I had never heard of this type of sheep before, and had no idea that they had these in NM!!!  Wow, learn something new every day I guess!

I just looked them up, and if I ever was out in the boonies and heard/saw this, I don't think I would stop running for several days.  At the very least I'd need to change my camo pants!

Good luck with the hunt!!  Post how it goes if you get a chance, I'd be very interested to learn more about this.

Thanks, In Texas they call

Thanks, In Texas they call them Aoudads.  They released them in NM about 40 years ago about the same time they released other exotics (Orxy & Persian Ibexes).

Agreed. Couple of days ago

Agreed. Couple of days ago was able to get out and do some shooting.  It was cold and windy (particularly when I was off the mark :)  but had a great time just getting out for a while!
