Obama Supports Iranian Nuclear Aspirations

Well here you go, America -- another example of Obama standing up for American interests, showing his support for Israel, and helping bring peace to the world. Obviously, a nation awash with petroleum has an energy crisis and needs nuclear power to generate electricity.

The only question I have is what he's going to do when Israel decides that America doesn't have its back anymore and launches a strike.

Isn't this akin to someone peeing down your back - and then telling you its raining? Iranians must be laughing at how gullible we are.

Israel will not sit back and wait. If Israel strikes first, I do wonder who Obama will support?

Just curious. I read the linked article and nowhere did I see it said that "Obama Supports Iranian Nuclear Aspirations". As a matter of fact the title to the article is "Obama says Iran's energy concerns legitimate"

Expat I think you are coming unhinged, just making things up, next you'll be telling me Acorn is under investigation.

Bingo! You're spot on, pangolin. Obama said he believes "Iran has legitimate energy concerns, legitimate aspirations." The article also references his statement in Prague, where he said his administration would "support Iran's right to peaceful nuclear energy with rigorous inspections."

None of that in any way backs any sort of claim that Obama supports Iran's nuclear program. Expat is way off base on this one. Apparently the Iranians are, too, because the article says Iraninan state television said Obama's comments recognized the "rights of the Iranian nation." They obviously twisted his words around for political advantage.

What nutjobs. The Washington Post really is a pathetic excuse for a newspaper. Everybody knows Obama affirmed his support for Israel when he spoke to AIPAC and said their security was sacrosanct and non-negotiable and that he would do everything he could to stop Iranian uranium enrichment.

I expect that when he speaks in Cairo this week, he'll reaffirm his support for Israel and make it clear that he won't allow Iran to continue enriching uranium.

Hey, I'm just saying that pangolin should've just conceded the point. It's one thing to say he's right or wrong to support Iran's energy program, but ridiculous to try to argue that he didn't say it. Guess I should've said it simpler. I didn't realize that progressive posters were such a rarity on this forum.

Now that's funny -- a thinking liberal shows up on the forum, and it has to be a conspiracy. Laugh Laugh

I don't know about Cairo, but I wouldn't be surprised if Obama apologizes for the Holocaust when he visits Buchenwald on Thursday, or says he's sorry for all the environmental damage caused by the D-Day invasion when he visits Normandy on Friday.

Obama's comments on Iran were dangerously stupid. Given Ahmadinejad's rhetoric about wiping Israel off the map, Israel considers the idea of a nuclear Iran to be a threat to its national survival. They won't accept that risk, and past experience with Iraq proves this point. The only thing holding them back from attacking Iran is our assurance that we've got their back. That's the same assurance that prevented Israel from responding to Saddam's attempts to suck them into the '91 war through Scud attacks.

If Israel thinks that Obama is selling out and comes to the conclusion that they're on their own, they'll take matters into their own hands. From Argentina to Entebbe to Osirak, they've proven that they will. Obama's in dangerous terroritory here, and runs the risk of going down in history as the guy who bungled Iran and threw the whole region into war.

I'd guess Expat as there were references to Plato etc and pretend liberalness that fooled cowgal, (no great achievement there) also slight bits of "is that you civet" from Ham Noi, when it started. Probably re routed through a freind in Idaho, lots of AIP Constitution Party types up in Cor de Lane.

Sorry, I didn't realize conservatives had a monopoly on classical philosophy. Given that some of history's great liberals like Jefferson quoted classical thinkers on a regular basis, I thought it was safe to do so as well.

"Pretend" liberalism? Do I have to spew rabid invective to be genuine? The last time I checked, the qualifications for being a "liberal" lay in political beliefs, not emotional volume. Some of my heroes are guys like King and Ghandi, who believed that ideas, not rage, should rule the day. Why would I push myself to the fringes with a lot of unhinged ranting? And by the way, using crude sexual insults like "ham noi" just makes you look juvenile. The other folks here may not get it, but I do.

And what's with the Idaho insult? What did we do to you? I don't know about "AIP," but for the record, we chased the Aryan Nation nutjobs out and shut down their compound years ago.
