Obama snubs cops?

I recieved this E mail from a friend on a California police department. I will leave his name and department out for privacy reasons but I will re-print it in toto otherwise. He's a Democrat for those interested.

Hello everyone,

For those of you who do not know, I was in Washington D.C. this past week, May 10-16 for "Police Week." It is a week to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving as a law enforcement officer in the United States . I attended with the Honor Guard team from my police department. The week is filled with various events to honor fallen police officers and their families. To provide you with Just a little background, May 15 was established by President John Kennedy as "Peace Officers Memorial Day" and the calendar week of May 15 is known as "Police Week" according to presidential proclamation 537.

The point of this email is to inform you of something I believe everyone should be aware of. President Barrack Obama did not attend this event. This may seem insignificant, but every year for the past 21 years, the president, regardless of political affiliation, has given a speech on May 15 on the steps of the U.S. capitol to the family members of fallen heroes.

I am sure the president has more pressing issues to focus on than attending a ceremony for the widows, parents, and children of fallen police officers.

It is understandable he may have needed to miss the ceremony for a more urgent matter and I say that with all seriousness. But, at the time of the ceremony where do you think Barrack Obama was? He was giving a tour of the White House to the 2008 world series champion Philadelphia Phillies. I know the Phillies are important and all, but the man could not take 30 minutes out of his day to take a short car ride 10 minutes down Pennsylvania Ave. to the Capitol, give a 10 minute speech and then drive back to the White House.

This is not a political issue and has nothing to do with being a Democrat, Republican, Green party, Independent, or whatever other political affiliation you may have chosen. This is about honoring fallen officers and paying your respects. It is obvious we know where Barrack Obama stands when it comes to supporting your local, state, and federal law enforcement officers. I feel everyone should know what occurred on May 15, 2009. You will probably not hear this in the mainstream media so I would encourage you to share this with anyone and everyone you want.

Thank You,

This sentence in the middle broke my heart.

Gee Bunny, how coincidental.

This other police officer also happened to attend as an honor guard for his police department and had the same sentiments. As a matter of fact the exact same sentiments, word for word. Maybe they were both there writing letters and peeking over each others shoulders. Maybe it was osmosis or some kind of mind control where everyone had the exact same thought and sent out a gazillion emails only to their bust buds.

Now I'm sure your buddy is a Democrat, I'll have you know I am the easter bunny, just thought I'd let you in on that pertinent fact.

Over on this police forum they're saying Clinton and GW Bush also missed one, another guy says it was Reagan. Another police officer said Obama missed his birthday party but he forgives him.

Guess they're all glad for that 5 billion included in the stimulus, better than all the cuts over the past few years.

How about that one with the $50 tax per gun to be attached to the 1040 and only to become public one month after it passed. I got one of those emails today. Some of my hunting buddies are a little unsophisticated.

While you got the hankies out cry a little over GW and Clinton. How could they so dishonor the fallen? etc etc etc.Reagan? What does Reagan have against police officers killed in the line of duty?

Bunny, looks like the officer.com web site believes its a real letter:

I'm sure officers around the country distributed this letter to all of their own via email, since it WAS a hurtful snub from Obama. From what I can find online, it does appear that Obama was busy entertaining the Phillies instead of recognizing the families of fallen officers. Shame on him.

I am somewhat puzzled by your response Pango as I did not imply the Police officer who sent me the letter was the author, just that he passed it along. Being intimately familiar with interdepartmental politics I deleted ALL names and department names. I did not know at the time that the letter was being sent out nationaly but as it is so much the better!! As usual you seem unable to deal with the issue at hand but lamely attempt to attack the messenger. Sad really.

All I saw was "I recieved this E mail from a friend" nothing at all about it being one of those viral emails passed on by a freind. Why pretend otherwise. You say the writer is a personal freind but you are with holding his name for anonymity's sake.

It's just a typical slanderous hit job, written by who knows. Ever figure out if the other prezs attended every one?

Not sure why anyone would misinturpet what you posted bunny.
I understood what it was you posted quite clearly, but then again I am not here to pick a fight.
I copied and pasted exactly what you posted so mabe someone could point out where it is that you implied that you personally knew the letters author
