Obama lays plans to kill expectations after winning election

Well SoCo and Civetcat, looks like your euphoria will end soon regardless of who wins. Obama is already working on ways to "temper" and "kill" the expectations of his overzealous followers when he wins this election.

"Barack Obama’s senior advisers have drawn up plans to lower expectations for his presidency if he wins next week’s election, amid concerns that many of his euphoric supporters are harbouring unrealistic hopes of what he can achieve."

No duh....

The rest of the story...

That's hilarious...most politicians wait until AFTER the election to start backing out of promises. Even the Obama campaign is questioning the Obama campaign. Maybe he'll start accusing himself of dirty tactics and negativity.

Pity about the London Times, used to be one of the Worlds Great Newspapers, until Murdoch bought it in the early 80s. Still is a good read if you throw out the celebrity and sports celebrity trash. For UK papers I like the FT or the Gardian even better.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/oct/19/obama-mccain-democra...
For a while a roomate had home delivery of the Gardian, at great expense.

But on to the article.

I never had overzealous expectations, even with a Dem legislature things take time. I expect health care sometime in 2011, and the economy to take all of the 8 years or more. Things have been headed in the wrong direction for 30 years (economic policy) and the country bankrupted. Things like that don't turn on a dime.

I read yesterday that the deregulation of environmental and consumer safety laws that Bush has begun enacting during the waning days of this administration while all eyes are on the horse race, ,might well take a year or more to reverse. I mean who exactly is in favor of increasing lead in our water to make our childrens IQs go down?

In the interviews Barack gave yesterday, and indeed in the entire way he has run his campaign, his goal hasn't been only to win the election but also to govern. That's why if you notice he hasn't said bad things about Republicans in general of the Republican party. He's looking to be president for more than fifty or sixty percent of the people.

The United States has some very serious systemic problems. The financial crisis makes them easier to solve in some ways in that most everyone can see that things just aren't working. To solve these problems is going to take more than taxing the top 1% of the income earners. It's going to take everyone pitching in together, Obama has set the stage to do just that. Republicans and Democrats.

A lot of Democrats have simplistic views of things, they are the expats of the left if you will. We can't just leave Iraq in 2 months. Liberals haven't even listened when he's said we need to increase efforts in Afganistan. Allowing Al Qieda and the Taliban to re establish safe havens there is not an option. Pakistan has a new government, our dictator got the boot. We don't yet know where the bottom is with the downturn.

One view has it that this is a horrible time to take the reins of power, another has it that if you are truly into helping the country when the need is greatest, there is no better time.

Somewhere in America there is a kid in Kindergarten, maybe Maria or Tyrone or Jack or Creag, in 40 or 50 years he or she is going to be president. We need an educational system and a health care system such that she or he can reach her full potential in a world at peace with out neighbors. That kid's dad needs a job that he can support a family with. That kid needs clean air and water to drink and breath. (and habitat in which to hunt elk) The conditions for that kid to grow up aren't created in a couple of months, we have to work on them for every one of those 50 years.

I'm curious Cowgal, do you read the web site of the London Times with regularity or did you follow the link from elsewhere?

That explains why all the signs say "Change we can believe in", rather than "Change we'll enact." For months this guy has pumped people up about all the wonderful things he's going to accomplish, and now he's backpedaling. His evolving definition of "middle class" is classic. A month ago it was $250K, then it was $200K, then $150K, and now it's apparently $120K. At this rate, I'll be upper class pretty soon.

Drat cowgal, I thought By Feb 09 everything was going to be just perfect and peachy. Can I go back and change my early vote? sad :]

Really now this is thin and looks desperate. Brick Wall,)

You always know when something hits home against the Obama campaign -- rather than answer it, they put their effort into telling you why you should ignore it.

Seriously...that's the best they can come back with -- that raising that issue is just a sign of desparation? The problem is that they've been throwing that flag around for everything critical that's come their way.

I've never seen a candidate with a list of so many things we shouldn't be allowed to question. We apparently can't talk about his father, mother, grandmother, past associations, legislative record, things he's said on the record, his own proposals, or just about anything. Every doubt that's raised is answered the same way -- rather than explain himself, he tries to argue that there's something wrong with you for having doubts.

The emperor is naked, but anyone that says so suffers his wrath, and the wrath of he mob he unleashes upon them.

What other leaders in history have been egomaniacs prone to large spectacles of adoration and locked into the idea that it's out of bounds to question them? Hmmm...

You probably can go back and change your early vote.
Just contact ACORN and tell em you are an Obama supporter and would like to vote again and they'll be more than happy to hook you on up with another whole new Identity and voter registration card. Good luck at the polls the 2nd go around.

Nothing desperate about this post SoCo, just sharing. I found it a bit odd that Obama has already started to explain "what he really meant" during his campaign. Gotta temper all that euphoria... the Obama campaign's words, not mine.

Pssst... civetcat, the internet has a great tool... its called google! Really good for finding all those "links" and great publications. Here's the link ...

The shifting income classes between Biden and Obama is hysterical as well. Guess they better put their heads together and decide what story to stick to.

Hint to civetcat... I found this link via google too! You just type in "obama biden income class" and whalla... a page full of reading material...

If you scroll down a bit on the above link, you'll find a good analysis by the John Birch Society neener!

Thought it was slightly related, but OK. You seem to be a bit touchy, is it because of what's likely going down tomorrow? Don't be so ready for the sky to fall, against your desire for it to be an awful thing you just might prosper over the next four years. Don't close your mind.
