Obama and Gun Bans

About four years ago we had some vibrant discussions about whether Obama would move to ban guns. One member vigorously defended Obama and said he would not ban guns. Well he was right to a certain degree. Obama did not move to ban guns in his first term, but it looks likes Obama will move to ban guns in his second term.

We all must work to preserve and protect our 2nd amendment from unconstitutional laws. To do this, we must be vigilant, strategic and sensible. People want a discussion on how to stop murders and we should be at the table. Let's focus on how do we keep guns out of the hands of mentally ill people and criminals without restricting the rights of law abiding citizens.

Think about it, there is mounting evidence that violent movies and video games are contributing to the violence in youth. Do the anti-gunners want to restrict the 1st amendment? Do they want to require background checks on people who want to see movies or use video games?

We have to work togethe to stem the rise of violence in our country but taking guns out of my hands leaving me less able to protect my family is not the answer.

We can't just complain on here. We must be active and work to protect our freedoms.

Obama and Gun Bans

It's coming, people...and it's coming this week.  They're going to push hard and they're going to push fast while the nation is upset.  And if anyone objects or questions them, they'll invoke the children to bully opponents into submission.  This is what community organizers do...they mobilize a crowd into a mob where they stop thinking like individuals and surrender their individuality to groupthink.  Psychologically, such a group is extremely prone to direction.  As Saul Alinsky said, "Never let a good crisis go to waste."  If we've learned anything from this administration, it has been that it follows a clear pattern -- invoke a crisis, stir up emotion, and demand that action must be done NOW.  Don't think about it, because we've got to act NOW.  They've got to push now, before the Christmas break, because if they wait until Congress reconvenes in January America's rage will have cooled somewhat and their ability to ramrod things through will be reduced.   This week is going to be busy.  And if nothing else, you have to wonder what this president would be willing to do with executive orders.  It's time to get vocal and get active, because there's a steamroller coming.

John Lott's book "More Guns, Less Crime" needs to be mandatory reading.  The guy's research is phenomenal, and he does a great job laying it out.  We had an assault weapons ban on the books for ten years, and numerous studies have been conducted to determine its effectiveness -- to include studies by the Centers for Disease Control, National Research Council, and Department of Justice.  Not one has has found any evidence whatsoever that the AWB reduced crime in any way, nor was there any uptick in crime when the ban expired.

Personally, I'm just as horrified about what happened in Connecticut as anyone else.  But I refuse to accept the idea that we should perpetuate this lunatic's crime by giving him the power to impose restrictions on millions of law-abiding Americans.  If we're going to use a suicidal child-killing maniac as the standard to decide American liberties, then it's only a matter of time before we're a police state with no freedom whatsoever.

It took police ten minutes to respond to the shootings.  The principal and counselor in Sandy Hook both sacrificed their lives to challenge an armed man with no weapons of their own.  Imagine if one or both of them had been armed.   The way to stop suicidal maniacs from trying to become famous in their final act is to stop them at the point of the attack.

Americans are becoming increasingly worried about mass-murdering lunatics in their midst.  They want to protect themselves; good luck convincing them that the answer is to disarm.

Polls

Thanks Mike, I voted.

It's good to see that so far most of the people that voted are level headed.

What each and every one of us

What each and every one of us should do is take 15 minutes and write a email to your state congressional representative along with your state senator expressing you views.

I don't think that these online polls that pop up all over the place asking these type of questions really do anything to sway or even make our representatives even think.

If you don't have your representatives email address you can follow this link and find out.

For your state senator follow this one.

Critter is correct

Do what Critter has suggested. Let them know where you, the voter, stands.
Some will say "it don't matter what we say they'll just vote party lines" but I don't believe that will be the case with any but a few that are way too radical to care about possible lost voters.
If you think it doesn't matter well then do it anyway no harm in that, right?

I made a resolution to email

I made a resolution to email my Congressional delegation on all major issues. If I can post on the Internet about stuff that is important to me then I can email my Senators and Congressman.

And unfortunately I and others predicted this about Obama. It is a shame that fellow hunters voted for him.

Executive Orders

Well as of this morning the executive orders have been signed.  Now, of course he didn't reveal in todays speech what those orders detailed.  He simply ended by signing them.  The deed is done.  Let that be a lesson to us all.  In the past there have been a few folks on this very forum, who are Democrat voting yet pro hunting but simply do not appreciate nor defend the full rights of the 2nd Amendment. Some discussions here in the past have proven that there are some (even many) hunters who simply don't care if the government restricts or infringes on our 2nd Amendment rights when it comes to certain firearms. Well they just did.  I'm sure Obama planned it all along.  He just needed an tragic act to lead his knee jerk reaction and emotional respose to justify his unAmerican actions by punishing the lawful citizens of this country and infringing on our rights.

Why is it that these horrible acts of violence never occure is places where lawful people are well armed?  It's clear to me that it's neither the gun, nor the ammo, nor any tool is to blame for anything. We simply live in a time and era where all the once government funded mental hospitals and sanitariums are long gone and been closed for decades.  All the while our government now uses this current war on terrorism as an excuse to overbloat itself and take more power and control over it's people.
