That will be a good source of info. The US Sportman's Alliance has the same thing, and proves to be a good source to stay informed on issues. If anyone hasn't, and wants to check them out their site is:

As an NRA member myself I think the NRA should just do what it does best and stay focused on Second Amendment Rights. Hunter's rights are readily available from the division of natural resources or hunting conservation orgs.

NRA needs to keep their nose out of conservation and hunting. It's not their business and not what I pay my membership dues for. Let Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Ducks Unlimited. Pheasants Forever, etc, handle these hunting and conservation issues.

Everytime the NRA tries to get involved in this stuff all they do is get in the way by telling gun owning hunters to fight this fee or that fee. Well some of these fees are needed for the division of natural resources to do their job of wildlife and habitat conservation. Remember that it's the money from hunting and fishing license that go to manage game and habitat. The NRA's involvement in this is counterproductive.

The Second Amendment is NOT about hunting rights. It's about ultimate freedom, self protection, and security for the private citizen. It's about the law abiding citizen's right to keep and bear arms for that security, personal protection, and freedom from tyranny, and that's all. The NRA has done many wonders over the years by intoducing education of firearm safety, proper use, and marksmanship. Citizen and law enforcement training and education. By protecting legislation that protects our 2nd Amndt rights. The NRA needs to stay in that areana.

Western, While I do agree with PART of what you are saying, dont you think that ANY and ALL help is deemed nessessary for our hunters? While sometimes they do have a tendency to be a little overbearing in thier way of doing things, such as being against certain taxes that, while yes they are "earmarked" for conservation, but thats RARELY where the majority of it goes. There are MANY taxes that are supposidly for us yet a lot of the money goes to things such as road repair. Now if someone could explain to me how fixing potholes (at the cost of 1000 a hole) on I-95 is in ANY way helping our hunting Id be much appreciative to hear it. The NRA is HIGHLY motivated towards helping hunters as we are the vast majority of gun owners and with thier political connections they could actually be of IMMENCE service. We as NRA members just have to keep in mind that it is US that controls the beast and by US taking the reigns and voting in and speaking up at meetings and expressing what we as the members wish then things will be done correctly and successfully. This country would be MUCH better if we as a whole could actually start working together and get our government back to what it is supposed to be. Remember folks WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is the first line. Its not US THE GOVERNMENT. Unless people stop acting like sheep and just following the herd nothing will be done and this country that is so great will fall to the tyranny of the beast which we have let run loose and out of control.

Well said cam69conv. You make a some great points about the matter. However I still believe that the NRA should stick to doing what it does best. We all know what happens when you try to fight a war on two fronts. You will end up losing both. I've always said that ALL gun owners should be members of the NRA. It just happens to be that a great many hunters are also gun owners. But not exclusively. Gun owners also include the vasts majority of police officers in this country who purchase their own sidearms for duty, olympic target shooters, ranchers, farmers, competition shooters of all types, grandma, grandpa, students, teachers, doctors, athletes, the list goes on and on. We will be more powerful when all gun owners join the NRA, not just hunters.

If enough pro-gun hunters would also join the various conservation organizations then we can let those conservation groups handle hunting rights. Sadly it's not going to be legislation that will kill hunting in this country, it's starting by us not passing down the tradition of the sport to future generations. I see the same thing happening in shooting sports and gun ownership. I meet few people from my generation or younger who have ever fired a weapon in their lives let alone handled one. Most seem uncomfortable about the thought of guns. Most times at the shooting range I typically see more shooters over 45 yrs old than I do 35 yrs or younger. Legislation is one form of death. The other major cause is not passing the sport along.

I agree with your thoughts on self-destruction WesternHunter. Part of our job in being pro-active is to share our sport and traditions with family and friends. When the opportunity presents itself, we can not afford to just sit idle. The long term reprocutions of keeping experience, skills, and traditions to oneself will eventually cause a wave of consequences that will be too much for a generation to bear.
