NRA and Junk Mail

Okay, I just got a pair of camos from Cabelas.

In the box are the camos (single pair of camos pants).

Also in the box:

Cabelas ad for Shop online/request a catalog/find a store
Cell phones for Soldiers
Corvette Dream Giveaway / Kids Wish Network
Oh, a thing to order checks, over 800 designs to choose from
Offer for a free coffeemaker just for trying Gevalia Coffee
Dreams of the Wild ... I'm not sure what it is ... genuine leather something
Dale Earnhardt Jr Express .. I think Junior Train set ad
Oh, and an 8-1/2 x 11 cardstock folding ad for a mattress - the last bed I'll ever need
Geico Insurance - `for all the things that move me'

and a packing slip.

What a waste ... all I wanted were the camos.

... just order something from Cabelas. You'll get ads for everything else you need, and stuff you don't need.

I look at it differently. The junk that you get from Cabelas is a one time shot and it all comes in the box and not for the next 6 months through the mail. Except for the speciality catalogs that make good bathroom reading. Also they do not call you twice every night to ask you to help out in some way. A month ago I was away for a week and when I returned home there were no less than 20 calls from the NRA on my caller ID, there were no messages left just the calls. I belong to quite a few organenations that sollicit help one way or another but I do believe that the NRA does go overboard on a lot of them. As far as the phone calling I believe that they hire an outside telemarking firm to make these calls. I just wished that there was someway that you could opp-out of anything beyound your membership and or alerts. That would make a lot of us happy campers.

Critter, your post is somehow refreshing, or maybe I am just unusually happy this morning, or maybe it's that I don't have a lot of extra money these days, so extra ways to spend don't interest me.

I haven't gotten much junk mail from the NRA lately...not sure why.

I've heard this same complaint on other boards too. You know what would be fun is if we collected the junk mail for say two months and everyone mail it back unopened to the NRA on the same day.

It wouldn't change a thing, but it might be fun Evil!

There you go, pass the word to keep all the NRA junk mail you recieve and mail it back to the NRA on January 2, 2010.

True the NRA could be more efficient with their mailings, but junk mail is a small price to pay for belonging to an organization that defends our cherished 2nd Amendment Rights. I only seen to notice a large volume from the NRA around election time anyway, don't get much else any other time of the year.

Belonging to the NRA isn't nessesarily proof that you are a gunowner. There are other ATF firearm ownership transfer forms that are kept by the dealer until it closed or goes out of business, then 7 years later they either have to transefer that paperwork to the ATF or destroy the forms themselves. Basically there are other much more reliable forms of paperwork that prove you had purchased firearms.

Agree'd the Patriot Act was and still is an act of treason!!!!!

Okay - that order from Cabelas ... I didn't report the whole truth. Actually, the camos were one of two items ordered, but the second item was on backorder. Just arrived. Ammo. Ammo box is 21.56 cubic inches. Box it came in is 212.5 cubic inches. So, several square feet of paper crumpled up to fill the space, plus the bubble wrap on the ammo, ...

... AND ...

ad for wilderness cuckoo clock (oh, so that's how it's spelled)

Cabelas return policy, florescent green

cell phones for soldiers recycling program bag (again)

shipping paperwork complete with return on exchange instructions ... hmmm, I thought ammo sales were final

cabelas super savings flier

last bed I'll ever need flier, again

Geico, again

designer style ad for my personal mailing labels

ad for checks, 800 designs to choose from - I don't know if this is a new 800 or same 800 as last time.

Oh, almost missed it at the bottom of the box: 8-1/2 x 14 folding ad: Corvette Dream Giveaway, enter now to win ...

NOTE: this, plus the stuff from before, is all from a single order of two total items. No doubt someone was thinking that the second time I see some of this stuff I would surely change my mind. Or maybe they weren't ...
