Senate Bill 1594 by Sen. Marlatt and Rep. Sanders. Allows crossbows and conventional bows with draw lock devices as a legal means of hunting whenever conventional bows are allowed. Bill would be effective immediately. Signed by the Governor.

How do you see things changing (if any) for archery hunting in Oklahoma ????
I didnt know any of that was going on. I think crossbows should have been limited to ML and Rifle season personaly. It will be interesting to see how it pans out. So is that the last step in making it legal or are there more steps ?
While I am not from Oklahoma I don't think that it is a good idea to alow crossbows during the regular archery season. You have to figure that archery season was set up for archers that practice for weeks (or should) before they head out into the field. With a crossbow all you do is pull the string back lock it in place put a bolt in place the cross hairs on the deer and pull the trigger. If everyone wanted to do that all they need to do is get themselfs a rifle tag.
At the very least they should have made a 1 weeks season where you could use a crossbow. Make it Between ML and rifle season. Having a 3 month crossbow season is crazy in my opinion.
I do like the idea, I wish oregon would allow crossbows, however I agree that they should NOT be allowed during archery season, they need there own week or two. IMO
As much as Oklahoma likes to make $$ off their wildlife I'm suprised it wasnt made into a seperate season. This would mean people without lifetime license would have to buy another $25 tag to hunt. I think there is a 95% chance that this will happen in the next 5 years. Now Oklahoma REALLY needs to go to a 1 buck per year limit.
I know its a done deal but that doesnt mean it cant change once they realize how much money they could make off of a seperate season.

Well, it's spreading to NC. Crossbows will be legal for all hunters in NC starting this year through all seasons. It used to be crossbows were legal for people with disabilities/injuries. I don't like the idea of them being legal during archery season as alot of people will probably buy a new crossbow, practice a couple of times, and then go out and wound a deer. We'll see how it plays out.
