Northwest CO elk photos

Took these photos this past Sunday 3/21/10 along highway 13 about 10 miles south of Craig. Hundreds of elk winter in this area. Mostly cows and spikes down low, however we did spot a group of bulls just at the edge of the cedars a little above the field of cows. We saw quite a few antlers, so it doesn't appear that they've started to shed yet.

Cool. Did you guys get much of this storm that we got nailed by? I have about 8 inches of fresh, wet snow here.

Blood is pumping already...and still have over 5 months to go! (Yep, gonna try and sling the pointy stick at them for the first time)

Re: Northwest CO elk photos

The elk do look good this year. We've been watching them through the winter. The snow wasn't as deep as some years, so both the elk and deer had an easier winter. South slopes are bare now and grass is starting to green up, so the critters should be happy!

Exbiologist, we got quite a bit of snow this past Friday, not too much out of yesterday's storm. Maybe a couple inches or so. Sun's out and it's melting fast. I think your side of the mountains got hit much harder.
