my buddy just killed this 7x4 32" wide today with his bow in salt lake i thought i would share it with you guys cause it is the biggest iv seen taken from that area. it was just the other day i was telling critter the deer suck up there, but i still feel that way. the rut is playing a factor as well right now. good luck hunting!

NORTHERN UTAH BUCK

Awesome buck! Thats the second one I've seen taken from the wasatch front that size. The other one was very similar, but shot 30 miles away. The bucks are there, but its not going to be an easy hunt. Great buck!

Nice deer, thanks for sharing.

There are a lot of big deer roaming around the Wasatch but it's a very difficult hunt. The mountains are steep and the brush is generally very tough to put a stalk on until it snows. I'm not sure what area he was hunting but the hills above Salt Lake are all pretty good. I'm bummed they closed the bottom of Red Butte this year.

its been 4 years since i have hunted that area more because iv killed every year on the general hunt but this buck makes me want to go. it is very rugged its not like you just ride the roads you have to hike and hike and hike well you get the point and it is all up hill no rolling hills or flats it will test your mentality for sure. i think there are some area's that you can go to kill a small 2 point or doe remember this area has been close to all rifle hunts for more than 25 years maybe even longer so we have not seen half of what is out there.

That is indeed a nice buck and there are others up there just like him. That is the kind of country the big ones like nice and rugged along with nobody chasing them with a rifle. I also found out that there are some real nice bucks over in the Kennecott property, and of course there is no hunting there either
It is a little funny in that I was talking to a friend that has a farm down by the Provo airport and he is pissed at the DOW along with the town. He has or claims to have a couple of bucks over 35" living and eating his corn and potato tops down there and you can't hunt them. I volunteered to show up over Thanksgiving with a cross bow and help him out but he just laughed at me.

Here, here! I've hunted the Wasatch the last few years and believe me when i say there are some monsters up there due to it being closed to the rifle hunt for so many years but it will definitely test your will. You have to hike, hike, and hike some more in some rugged country to get to them and there are no roads just like you said. Even once you get there they are difficult to get close to quitely because of the terrain and vegetation. They are there though. Last year I saw the biggest typical I've ever seen on the hoof and I have been on several limited entry units. Too bad it was on a scouting trip two weeks before the hunt.

critter depending on how far you are from that airport if they allow bird hunting in the area you should be allowed to shoot a bow in that area. I do know a few farmers in that area that hunt there farms for deer with a rifle it all depends on how much land there is . he may be able to get some deperdation tags pending on the sq miles or acre. if i was you i would well i think you know what i would do keep it under your hat Evil! Evil!

Hunter:
It is no dice hunting there due to city ordinance. They have sub divisions all around his property now. I remember when I was in Jr High school in the 60's and going down there and hunting pheasants along with bow shooting carp in the spring. Times have changed down there and not for the better.
Also if you know the area I have a friend that lives on Indian Hill's drive in North East Provo. He had a couple of nice 4 pt bucks hanging around his home for a couple of years until an idiot shot them with a shotgun. And yes the idiot did a little jail time along with having to pay a nice fine.
