Have you ever tried using straight clover?i know the deer out here luv it!

You live south of Duluth and you need to put in plots? Isn't there enough agriculture around to keep them fed and to pattern them? I guess I'm biased, I've never been a fan of food plots. A lot of work, probably moreso than just doing some more scouting.

If you really want to do food plots though, I'm sure a quick search of the internet will give you more than enough info! For my two cents, try to avoid mixes of plants that don't belong in MN. We have enough problems with invasives. Sorry not to be of more help.

Well I planted 1 plot. We will see how it goes, used a no-till with rape, rye and clover, need some rain.

Run up to the Feed Bin (Store) in Superior Wisc. and buy their deer mix. They are located on a main street that goes to the bridge to Duluth next to RR tracks.  Wish I could give better directions but I live on the Iron Range and never pay attention to street names in Wisc. It grows just fine at Bruno, MN.  Straight clover is good also.  The Grouse love clover.  Disc the soil then plant it and fertilize it.  Miracle Grow is the best.  Then drag it to cover the seed.  Make SURE it has plenty of sunlight or it will not grow.  The deer mix can be bought in large qualities and is VERY reasonably priced.  Opening weekend of fishing season or later is the best time to plant.  Apple trees grow just fine also……make sure they have sunlight.  I use fertilizer spikes and the trees seem to grow faster.  If you have any questions feel free to send me an email.
