Great looking bull and a big

Great looking bull and a big congratulations to you and your boys. Having them with you on your big day makes it even more special. As stated I have heard or folks drawing with 5 points but that is very rare as allot of us have 10 or more. You can draw a cow with 5 points pretty easy but not a bull. The area you want to hunt does make a difference in your chances and having more points helps for sure. There is a whole system the DOW has on how the draw works. I do not have access right now to this info but you can find it on the web. It is somewhat in depth but clears up how the system works if interested.

Congratulations on a great

Congratulations on a great bull. I've been putting in for around 17 or 18 years now myself with no luck yet but I have missed a few years due to funds. One of these days it will happen though I'm sure. I can't remember when it started but I didn't think they had been doing the weighted system for 20 years already. Possibly but I sure didn't think so as it started sometime after I began the process.

Hunter25:  I think you're right.  It looks like next year, the max point holders will have 15 years in the bag, three years to be eligible for the draw then another 12 weighted points.

Wow! Thats one heck of a bull

Wow! Thats one heck of a bull you got there. I wish my state had a moose hunt. I'm jelous of all of you who have that oppertunity in your home states. We do have about 50-60 moose here, just not enough for hunting and won't in my lifetime. Every few years i read a story of a hunter shooting a moose here thinking it was an elk. A huge congrats to you and your hunt. It must have been great to share it with your boys. I cant wait for my kids to be old enough to hunt with me. My daughter likes to tag along but I'm looking forward to the day she can harvest her own animals with me by her side. I'll be one proud daddy. Again congrats and thank you for sharing your hunting story.

Shiras moose

Hi Guys, Thanks for all the kind words. I wish I could take credit for this bull, but it was covered in a lot of prayer and goes to the glory of my God. I was reading an old article the other day about a new state record taken in colorado, unfortunately it didn't have a date on it. It was taken by a Chiropractor in the Loveland/Ft. Collins Colorado area. It was like the second time he had hunted ANYTHING. Took one cow elk and then the Co record bull moose. It shattered the previous record bull of 162 5/8 by more than 30 points. 196 and some change I think. They don't expect that record to be beaten, although I have heard rumors that there may have been a new world record taken in Colorado this year. Moose have been a real success story for the DOW. If you draw, chances are good you will take a good one if you put in the planning, effort and of course prayer. My bull scored somewhere in the mid 160's making it as good or better than the previous Colorado record. I'm delighted with that. And since it's a once in a lifetime thing, I'll be delighted a long time...........I hope. Thanks again guys, just keep applying. It'll happen........Joe
