north idaho fall bear season

Bear season is coming soon to North Idaho... my first attempt. Have alot of colored bears in my hunting area. Should I wait until later in the season to get a nicer coat or is a late august bear coat ok? Not sure if I can wait it out!!!
Thanks for any and all input.

I would hold out till at least october if your looking for a fuller coat. The bigger boars will be filling up on berries throught august and september. October would be the time to tag one for the coat.

Thanks for the welcome ! This buck is the 2nd largest I have taken. First was a huge 13 point taken in Ohio when I was younger. I will be hunting over bait. I was out only 2 days for spring season. I used a large canned dog food can with honey and raw bacon in it and burned it with a sterno. Did not see a bear for the hunt but 2 days later the can was mauled by bears. Have seen many Cinnamon ,Black and a couple of blondes. Fall season comes in August 31 and believe me, I will be out!!! Its a passion. Never shot a bear, so any and all info would be wonderful. Also, going to try Archery Elk this year for the first time as well. Have a great season!!!

Thanks man I will what do you use for bait? What kid of set up do you have? Ive been using a knight and hale game cry call the last few years seem to work I like the distessed fawn and distresssed rabbit call if that helps I also only use leftovers and scrap meat from the butcher always works and works great once the site is established nothing will stop them from comming into it.

I am hunting in the area of a wild pear tree that the bears eliminate the fruit every fall in about 3 days, so i have used pears, apples and jelly filled day old donuts. I do have another set up with a tree stand a few hunded yds further in the woods hoping for a bigger boar. That is where i burned the honey and bacon.
Could you tell me alittle more about calling. Could I call over the deeper wood bait site if i put out meet there? What time of day is best for calling? And how long do you call? I have heard that calling for bear needs to be longer . Call straight for 10 minutes or more? And how long until you call again? How long total? If a bear comes in do you stop or continue calling?
Somehow, I will get my bear this fall. Our first 2 weeks of season is archery only so that will be even cooler! Thanks so much for your info!!

Get yourself a fawn distress or rabbit and fawn in one and try it out. Call in little bursts and wait. I call for little periods of time 3 to 5 mins then wait 15 unless of course you hear something but cant see it step it up to a bigger cry then wait once you have a bear interested it is crucial to keep the call going so he dosent think your something just screwing with him if he is interested and you do it right he should walk right out or in another case youll have him slobbering and running full tilt right too you without stopping till he is right under you. Most cases they will take thier time comming out just to make sure the coast is clear. You can also call anywhere you want too it dosent have to be over a bait but itll help. If a bear comes in and you can tell he dosent know where the call is comming from let out a few short bursts so he knows, it should get his attention. 10 mins is too long I would say maybe 5 at the most then wait 20 dont call too much because they will know when it doesent sound right.
