NON RESIDENT

HELLO,

IM PLANNING ON ARCHERY ELK HUNTING THIS FALL AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYONE CAN BE OF ASSISTANCE. I WILL BE SCOUTING OVER LABOR DAY AND POSSIBLY BY AIR BUT WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT PART OF THE STATE WOULD GIVE ME SOME ACTION.

ANY RESPONSES WOULD SURE BE APPRECIATIVE. I CAN RECIPROCATE IF ANYONE DRAWS A TAG HERE IN ARIZONA.

THX,

AZELK

We have elk all over the state but over the counter areas usually get a lot of pressure unless you can find that isolated honey hole, which are few and far between. If I had to pick one area of the state I'd say, the southwest part of the state.

I'm surprised you don't buy one OTC in Arizona. I hear they have quite a few left and some areas are either sex.

ARIZONA HAS AN OTC FOR BULL ELK BUT AREAS ARE VERY LIMITED AND POPULATION IS BASICALLY NILL.

I'D RATHER TAKE MY CHANCES IN COLORADO WHERE THERE ARE GREAT NUMBERS OF ELK.

ANY IDEAS OF WHICH PART OF THE STATE WOULD BE APPRECIATIVE.

Re: NON RESIDENT

I don't know if I would be asking hunters where to hunt, I haven't found an elk hunter in my area that will tell me where he hunts in Colorado yet. I recently hunted in Montana and used a guide while my points build up. Everyday when we went back to the lodge he would tell us not to say anything to the other guides or hunters on what we seen. The locals will feel like the elk around them is their elk and I really don't blame them, on some of our family land my wifes uncle lets other people turkey hunt and I feel like their killing my turkey, I'm the only one in the family that hunts so their mine right? Anyway, I am going to try the San Juan National forest, I had a guy that don't hunt anymore said his family always did good there. I think the further you can hike in the better your odds are. Talk to the local game and fish officers they are usually real helpful.
