No Deer This Year

Sorry folks but no deer this year. I once again had to cut my trip short due to work but I still made it up there for a few days. I did see some deer but most were does and little bucks. I guess it'll be until next season.

Getting to camp was an adventure it self as you'll see in the pics below. Overall, it was a wonderful trip and I can't wait until next year!!! Thumbs up

Sorry to see you didn't get a deer.  Nice couple of photos there.  What happened with the tree?  Intentionally placed there to block you, or was it a blowdown?

Glad to see you still had a good trip though.

The tree was a blow down and

The tree was a blow down and like you said it really was a nice trip. I'm still looking forward for the NM Pheasant draw which will be next week. Wish me luck on that one because It'll probably be my last hunt this year (if I draw!). Big smile

I've read so many posts

I've read so many posts lately they blur together, but didn't you score a nice bear this year?  Doesn't replace getting a deer, but at least you had some hunting success.  Anyway, sorry to hear you didn't get the deer.

CVC, I did not harvest a bear

CVC,

I did not harvest a bear this year (wish I had though). It has just been a bad 2010 for me. Big smile

Looks like you enjoyed

Looks like you enjoyed yourself nonetheless!  If nothing else, you got to recharge the mental batteries and learn a little more about your hunting grounds!

Good luck on the pheasant hunt (if you draw)!

Pheasant season opens here tomorrow but our hunt is nothing like what I have seen from TV shows in Nebraska!  It's more like driving down dirt roads and then walking up and down irrigation ditches.

Pheasant hunts here are not

Pheasant hunts here are not like the ones in Nebraska or South Dakota but similar. If drawn you would hunt in a wildlife management area where not only pheasants are present but also quail, waterfowl and deer.

Pictured below: One of last years pheasants harvested by one of my buddies. I'm the one holding the bird.

pheasant hunting sounds like

pheasant hunting sounds like fun if you have a dog, but it is not somehting I've gotten into.  I suppose big game hunting keeps me busy enough.  I am not sure how much hunting my wife will tolerate, but then again, I guess i am willing to find out.

I am sorry to hear that it

I am sorry to hear that it has been such a rough hunting year for you prhunter. But that is just how the cookie crumbles. Everyone goes through those dry spells. It just makes the anticipation of the next time you have success greater. And then when it finds you, it is going to be overpowering. That will be a great felling. Pheasants will be fun and I am sure that you are going to pluck a few of them out of the air. Good luck and keep us posted on it.

Oh and by the way, is that a Remington 673 guide gun that you have in the picture of your deer hunt. My dad hunted solely with a .444 marlin for a lot of years and when I finally convinced him to get a new, flat shooting rifle, he wanted something with some character. I knew just the rifle to fit that bill and he got the 673 in .300 Remington Short Action Ultra Mag. It is an awesome gun. What is yours chambered for? The .350 and 6.5 both looked like cool options too.

Hopefully the pheasants will

Hopefully the pheasants will cooperate this year. I'll let everyone know how it goes out there.

The rifle that I'm holding is in fact a Remington 673. It is chambered in .300 SAUM. Lovely gun and it shoots straight. I have taken some nice deer with it.

Here a pic with the rifle during my elk hunt.
