The town of Wheat Ridge put

The town of Wheat Ridge put way too many requirements on Cabela's for them to even think of going there after their initial property purchase.  I could understand a few improvements to the access roads but the town went way overboard on what they were requiring.  So Wheat Ridge's loss was Grand Junctions gain.  But in Grand Junction they didn't build a mega store.  They went into the mall and took over a vacated department stores space for their own which makes a lot of sense in that they didn't need to buy a lot of land and make a lot of improvements on that land.  I can see them going that route a lot more often than not.

My problem with it is that I sit in the middle for distance to Cabela's in Grand Junction and Bass Pro in Denver.  But Cabela's gets the money since I don't have to drive over two mountain passes and put up with the drivers in Denver.

Well, I think having a Cabelas in Denver would make alot more sense than in Wheat Ridge.

I feel sorry for the people around Wheat Ridge who could have gotten a job there. I wonder how the city council feels about making a few too many demands, which it looks like might have driven Cabelas away.  Man, they bought it in 2006, and couldn't get anything done by now?

Yep, familiar with it.  My best friend is married to a girl from Arvada, which is almost the same exit off the 70.  I went up every March for about 5 years straight.

As I was saying, they lost out on alot of stuff. Jobs, and assuming that Wheat ridge has their property/sales tax st-up, then alot of money.  I know they are part of the greater Denver area, but if the Cabelas moves to the east of town near the airport, not many people from the Wheat Ridge area will follow the jobs that way.

Northwest side of I-70 gets you into Arvada.  Actually most of Wheatridge is located south of I-70, West of Sheridan and North of of about 20th Ave. Also I-70 turns in a southerly direction where the proposed Cabelas site is and that southerly part of I-70 is about the western boundary of Wheatridge.  It's just a burb as you said.  We used to call it White-ridge when I was gorwing up. Big smile

I knew they had been planning

I knew they had been planning that one for a long time but didn't realize it was that may years already. I've been in the Bass Pro over there several times but for some reason can never seen to find anything I want. The prices didn't seem that good and overall selection was pretty poor on most things as far as ammo and such. So far I've done real well with the one in Grand Juction, they did a real good job of packing a lot of stuff in a limited space and make it feel like a much bigger store than it is. I still like Sportsmans Warehouse as well but man that place is nearly empty of customers every time I've stopped there since the Cabela's opened up.

Cabelas was talking about

Cabelas was talking about putting a store somewhere in the Denver metro area before they even bought that land in 2006.  At one point, while I was still in college in Golden, I remember reading an article while they were still in negotiations to acquire land saying that they wanted to have the Denver-area store open before I was set to graduate in 2005.  I got my hopes up thinking they might have some sort of job I could do where I could take advantage of the employee discount.  That sure did not happen!  Oh well, my bank account is probably better off that it didn't.

cabelas

Screw Cabelas!  I don't shop from them anymore.  I've already stated my beef with them in another discussion here a while ago, so I won't burden anyone here with that mumbo jumbo again.

Sportsmans Warehouse, Gander Mountain, Dick's, Walmart, Murdoch's, and a few Army/Navy Surplus stores here locally serve all my hunting, fishing, and camping equipment needs anymore.  I acquired most everything I need for hunting a long time ago, the only time I shop for new stuff is whenever something breaks, wear-out, or gets lost.

Sounds like Lafayette is trying...

to lure Cabelas... Saw an article on the dailycamera website the other day, cant seem to find it now.  Think they mentioned an old Sams Club building as their proposed site.  I'll keep looking for the article
